what to do if you gave too much power?

The extraplanar rightful owner of said sword, who lost it a few generations back and is (at first) very grateful to these kind mortals for finding it. Mind you, once he knows they'd like to keep it, moods could sour quickly. But maybe a clever party could make some kind of arrangement...

    Selling loot, erg, books

I recall eBay has a service that tracks what items similar to your terms have sold for, if that would help him at all. EDIT: Which would be Advanced Search > Completed Listings only.

    Alternate Vampiric Touch

Huh. I've never had a problem with Vampiric Touch's utility. Just don't bother with it at 5th. Somewhere around 9th or 10th, when one of the party meat shields has a spell-storing weapon, well, it pays for the scribing-to-book cost admirably. I agree it should actually heal you, though.

Races & Classes details from the WotC boards

re: Dragonborn Well, at least they're not that god-awful "I used to be a (whatever), but I went to sleep inside a magic egg and now I'm all better" fluff from 3.5. It's fine as another race out there somewhere - in fact I like them as a rare race, because there's no reason they can't just...

Best / most common "dip" class?

When I'm having a party, I always use Fighter brand dip. :D

Races & Classes details from the WotC boards

Don't run too far. I think I'm on your side. From those tasty, simple feats to this? :\ That homeland thing feels really tacked on. Once you define humans into a niche alongside the other races, instead of adaptable and nicheless, you... ....oh, god... You remind me of an RTS game. I love...

    New Design & Development: Feats

Well, I'm back on board. That had meaty information to digest, and useful design philosophy spelled out. But say, I wasn't on ENWorld when some of the 3.5 stuff came out; was there this much crying about 'Robilar's Gambit'? 'Thunder Twin'? Hell, 'Combat Expertise' doesn't tell you anything...

    D&D 4E My biggest concern about 4E

"If 4e doesn't release with every single option released for 3.x over its life cycle, especially niche products with a mediocre reception, the rules are a failure." ...what? I do not even know where to begin correcting you. Extending this logic, 3e was a failure because Skills and Powers...

    Class List: HOW MANY?!?

Bets on the final three: Warlord, Paladin, Ranger. Lots of company for the fighter, very little for the rogue (in terms of scope of ability, not power source). We've gotten the most word about these from all those mentioned in Races & Classes, so that's where my money lies. Displeased they're...

mystery race : what would you hate the most ?

Every time someone says "half-vampire", I have the urge to slap them over and over again until God himself turns away in dismay.

    Races & Classes spotted?

...huh. Dragonborn? So, is it like the RotD dragonborn - I was a dwarf, but I got better? ...huh.

Way for armor to eat damage, w/o armor = DR.

Your newsletter. Let me subscribe to it. This idea looks admirably suited to my new E6 obsession (and spares me redoing armor myself :D). If you're inclined to share, PM? I'll tidy the formatting myself.

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

Valiant: I'll certainly grant you OSRIC was written with remarkable insight into the design intent of 1e. The first time I paged through it I came to understand how 1e saves worked. Which actually summarizes a lot of my issue with 1e. The core rule books are written to inspire and engage rather...

    What DON'T you like about 1E AD&D?

Level limits as a gamble towards balance. A class system that further rewards you for rolling better stats than the other players. Reliance on charts & matrices. The hidden balancers that mean certain rules work right only if you use certain other rules (see: monks + weapon vs. AC). XP for...

    ORCS or Half-Orcs?

Heroic fantasy may live well in black & white, but there's plenty of fun stuff in the gray margins, as WBDB suggests. Thieves' World anthologies were my introduction to fantasy, so I'll always have a soft spot for that sort of stuff. That said, orcs are so ubiquitous my players have trouble...

    Malebranche now a demon

I find I'm more forgiving of musculature than body shape when it comes to creatures impossible on their very face. If the silhouette barely glimpsed against the clouds as it dives down on the party looks sleek enough, I'm sold. :D YMMV.

    Malebranche now a demon

I actually kind of like the green dragon concept art. Looks very...aerial predator to me. The old dragons looked like they flew because "Dragons fly!", while the new green seems somehow sleeker, born to whip between treetops at full flight while pursuing prey. EDIT: Just got a look at the...

    Malebranche now a demon

It kind of strikes me as a typo as well, given that it otherwise fits the devil requirements (roughly humanoid, uses weapons). I'm curious why the completely remade Troglodyte isn't raising more of a kerfuffle, though. Not that anybody seemed too offended when kobolds changed with every new...

There's Powerful Deviltry at Work Here...

Well, Sorcerer's closest analogue to an alignment mechanic (in Humanity), anyhow. Other differences are simply too numerous to bother going in to.

    One new setting a year?

I'm afraid I must disagree. Shadows of the Spider Moon was, IMO, pretty much excellent as an art-nouveau spacefaring fantasy. Or maybe I'm just partial to drow corsairs with ornately decorated ebony-and-silver muskets and leashed displacer beasts. :D It was the 'comedy' that kept me out of 2e...
