Speaking only for my own group, the stats we want are like art or pornography; we can't describe it, but we'll know it when we see it. It defines the actual numbers of a MAD PC, or the five extra stats on a wizard (:D), in ways we didn't expect when we set out to roll up a member of that class.

I'll admit my first thought upon reading that example was "why don't they just trade the arrays", but that may be because we did just that when rolling up some PCs for RttToEE (to produce a Cloistered Cleric and a Paladin, but that's pretty close). And Iron Heroes won me over to the 1d4+x HD...

Sign me up for some of this. I certainly hope these suspicions hold water; with reduced mechanical effects for alignment I hold out hope that "angels" can represent a type of being rather than carrying the weight of alignment by implication. Or supposing "good" and "evil" have a lot more to do...
