I'm pretty sure the only game I've seen that's actually tried to get players to stick to an ancient or medieval culture was FATAL, and of course that game did it wrong.

Have You Used The X Card Or Seen It Used In Person?

Yep, a couple of time. We've gone over lines and veils but sometimes things come up that didn't get put down at the time. Even I kinda(?) used one, but I brought it up after the session so I guess not.

OK then, you stop the good guys when they're in the middle of doing good guy stuff. Whatever.

Wow. Literally all I said is that you can talk to NPCs in TTRPGs that you can't talk to in video games. If that idea upsets you so much, that's on you, not me.

Maybe not. Of course, with magic involved to calm things down, who knows! Whether there's a chance to talk beforehand depends on what the (potential) enemy is doing, so if they're actively engaged in evil acts, then the party probably doesn't want to give them a chance to continue that evil...

In TTRPGs? Most of them. In video games? I generally don't. Are you saying that in video games, you have as many options for dealing with enemies as you do in RPGs? Where did I say that they were playing wrong by murderhoboing?

In video games, the NPCs have limited programming. You literally can't sit down and talk it out with an enemy unless the enemy is programmed to have that option, and then you are limited by what options for dialogue there are. In a TTRPG, the only limitation is the imaginations of the players...

To be fair, in many video games, you can't actually have conversations with the NPCs the way you can in a TTRPG.

I think it was pointed out that those ogre minions had an AC of 27 (the minimum AC that a minion ogre thug could have, which is 16 + the monster's level; ogre thugs are level 11). No low-level guard (let alone a child) would be able to actually hit the ogre minion, except on a very lucky roll of...

MM just says "equal to its hit points." I've always heard that as current hp, not max. So it's just another issue of unclear writing. Those old movies are a whole 'nother world.

Really? And how do you determine that something is less plausible? Do you assume it's impossible to come up with a plausible reason on the fly, or an implausible reason that's thought up days in advance?

Of course it's both realistic and fair to expect you to ignore what you don't like. If you reply to it, all you do is encourage the parts you don't like to be talked about more!

Here I meant mostly because it got weaker as the dragon did. It's entirely possible my math was off, since I did it in my head and not with a calculator. I'm guessing the rationale was old movies. I've seen a couple of movies from the 50s and 60s where the hero hacks away at the dragon and...

Must've missed that. Another reason I'm glad I didn't buy that. What an odd decision. I wonder why WotC decided that.

So how do you tell the difference between "thought up yesterday," "thought up ten minutes ago," and "thought up right here on the spot"?

Using 5.14 rules, on its turn, the dragon can use its three physical attacks (all of which do enough damage to automatically kill a 4 hp peasant or 11 hp guard) and then use its Frightful Presence (Wis save 16). With a 120-foot radius range, how many of those peasants or guards, neither of which...

Or, y'know, you could just ignore those parts of the thread and talk about something else. Or start a thread talking about the things you like.

I think @EzekialRaiden blocked me (I can still see his posts, though, so I dunno; maybe he's just ignoring me), so he likely won't see this. If @AlViking or someone else wants to use this math, y'all can go ahead. You have to wait for the peasant to roll a nat 20, right? And no matter the...
