Anyone considering using the 'Modern' rules in DnD?

I'm not sure that the wealth system would work that well in D&D. Modern games don't seem to be as "treasure" oriented as D&D so most of your wealth will come from income/investments/ corporate bugets, etc. so it is more easily abstracted. For example, if a PC with a Wealth modifier of +15...

    [AMBIENT] Everyone Else review 5/5

Good eye on the stat-blocks! I know that it isn't your job to help us fix our mistakes but if it is convenient, we would love to see your notes on the skill rank errors so we can work it into the errata sheet ASAP. If it isn't convenient, not a problem. Cheers.

Cloaks of Charisma, Peripats of Wisdom, etc, QUESTIONS!

This situation has never come up in my campaigns, but if halfway through the day, a spellcaster were to lose bonus spells from a high ability score, which spells would she lose? I don't see there being a separate category (as with Domain Spells) for bonus spells. They seem to just add to your...

    Selling Magic Items

Are magic items "equipment" or "commodities"? I guess that depends on who you are selling to. If you are selling them to adventurers they would be equipment. If you are selling to collectors they would be commodities. It isn't really a useful distinction in this case (IMHO). The more useful...

"Flavor" (as in "flavor-text"), does it irk you?

This isn't something I feel strongly about either way. It doesn't matter what anyone else calls it, I still play the game the way I like to play it. But while we are being analytical, I think that calling the non-rules portions of the text "gaming" would be very innaccurate. The rules...

    Invisiblity/Hiding/Attacking/Sneak Attacks

Okay. I was just making sure that the authority supporting the contentious interpretation was clear. Cheers.

    Invisiblity/Hiding/Attacking/Sneak Attacks

For what it's worth, the Sage Advice quote that started this debate is not in the Official FAQ (10/15/2002). So, as it stands it is simply advice not official interpretation. The FAQ is silent on the issue. I think that an attack is an attack is an attack. If you make an attack roll or any...

(OT sort of) Help dealing with a player over the edge

If this isn't a troll (and I highly suspect that it is) perhaps finding out if he's praying to the D&D St. Cuthbert or the Roman Catholic St. Cuthbert would be a good starting place. Or perhaps he is conflating or confusing the two. For more information on the historical St. Cuthbert...

    Rangers... the weakest of classes?

Well, go tell that to a Huron with a hand axe and knife. ;) But I don't think that it is seriously in dispute that the D&D ranger is an internal creation. If you don't like it, use one of the alternatives. Some of us do like it. WotC can't please everyone. I guess I'm just glad it was me...

    Why iterative attacks decline?

The even increments of power is important, but Christian's point is worth expanding on. Because a good BAB increases much faster than AC, at higher levels (starting around level 11, in my campaigns) the fighter or barbarian is almost guaranteed to hit with his first iterative attack. That...

    [AMBIENT] Everyone Else review 5/5

What would you like to know? I suppose I can't be much help with "How do you like it?" sort of questions, but I'm keeping an eye on this thread for any questions I might be able to answer. Cheers.

    Wizards SRD Updated

I am not a lawyer, and I don't think that you need to be in this case. It seems clear that WotC did not intend the Urgrosh (or the Gnome hammer) to be OGL'd. Whether or not it has inadvertently become OGL'd, I don't think that a publisher should use it. It is just bad form. They were kind...

    Rangers... the weakest of classes?

The point about campaign-context bears repeating, if all you run are dungeon crawls then rangers, druids and bards are going to seem weak. Rangers and druids are even more out of their element in extra-planar campaigns. I don't think that rangers are completely out of place in a dungeon crawl...

Yep. They are pretty common in my homebrew. It's a very cosmopolitan setting. There is an elven and dwarven homeland, but only because player's often write backstories that include that sort of thing. More typically, the races are scattered throughout the lands. I don't even have a separate...

[OT] Sad news - Richard Harris, the actor playing Professor Dumbledore died.

Among all of his great roles, I always come back to Frank in Wrestling Ernest Hemingway. The character was so much smaller and insignificant than Harris ever seemed in interviews. He was a presence on Letterman, Leno or even TVO (for those of you who are from Ontario). I wouldn't call him a...

    [AMBIENT] Everyone Else review 5/5

Thanks everyone for the flattering reviews. I really appreciate the praise, and the criticism. "Mainly the frequency of triple damage criting clubs and the completely average stats." Man, Richard and I are going to be hearing about this one from our friends for ages. "Think you're a...

Dieties and Demigods - Is there a limit on the spells they can grant worshipers?

I'm no expert on Deities and Demigods, but from what I recall on my read through, there aren't any rank 5 gods who are only Character Level 24. They were all Level 60+ It also didn't seem to be necessary for them to have levels in cleric (Who would they worship, themselves?) in order to grant...

    Honest PDF Page Counts?

I think that the only issue I might have with pdf page numbers is that if the page number in the table of contents does not match with the actual page number, the scroll bar is a blunt instrument and "goto page" is near useless. I sort of expect this from the medium, it isn't a book after all...
