D&D 5E (2024) Check Out The New Monster Manual’s Ancient Gold Dragon

The banishment lasts until the start of the dragon's next turn. The target is going to lose their turn whether they come after or before the dragon in initiative order.

D&D 5E (2024) Its till just me or is the 2024 MM heavily infused by more 4e influences?

Minor point: Despite being described as a "scholarly acolyte", Sister Garaele appears to be a commoner in Phandelver & Beyond, and seems to have indeterminate stats in the original Lost Mine of Phandelver.

Monster Manual Previews Reveal New Empyrean, Half Dragon, Cyclops, and Animal Lords

Well, originally they were usually completely humanoid in appearance. Like the Cat Lord from 1e's MMII: Or DiTerlizzi's Planescape Animal Lords:

So Much Art From the 2025 Monster Manual

Being pedantic... I believe the first Animal Lord in D&D was the Cat Lord, published in 1e's Monster Manual II (i.e. pre-Planescape). Very interested to see what the new ones are like!

2025 Monster Manual to Introduce Male Versions of Hags, Medusas, and Dryads

Heck, D&D has even done this to itself! Now all Type IV Demons are called "Nalfeshnees", Type V Demons are all "Mariliths", and all Type VI Demons are "Balors"! Marilith was an individual, with her own personality and history and desires; she doesn't deserve to have her bad name appropriated by...

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

I'd never thought of it that way, but it's a good point. I do miss the Minor Action and Standard Action of 4e. If I recall, the explanation given for the change during the D&D Next phase of 5e's development was that the designers wanted to streamline player decision-making to taking an Action...

Mainstream News Discovers D&D's Species Terminology Change

The level of misinformation on this particular thread, from repeated misunderstandings of how "species" is defined, to misstatements about what's in 2024 D&D, is getting to be a lot. The Acrobatics and Athletics skills were introduced into the D&D tradition by 4th Edition D&D, playtested and...

D&D General The New York Times on D&D

You should be very careful about the extent to which you're assuming that online commentary reflects the views of the "general public". There is a HUGE self-selection bias operating there. (That goes for this place, too, as we've discussed many times; don't assume that ENWorld discussion...

D&D General Dark Sun as a Hopepunk Setting

Part of your premise is off, I think. A preserver in OG Dark Sun was just a normal 2e wizard; it was no more "limited and costly" for a PC to wield arcane magic than in a normal game of 2e D&D. (At least, not mechanically; socially is a different matter.) In fact, arcane magic was even more...

D&D General Multiple Sources of Resistance?

That's incorrect. Resistance has never stacked in 5e. You have Resistance to an instance of damage or you don't.

D&D General Multiple Sources of Resistance?

To the best of my knowledge, there is no creature that has Resistance (i.e. that takes half damage) from spells or magic in general, so this wouldn't come up. There are creatures that gain Advantage on saving throws against spells and magic, but that's a different thing.

D&D General Elon Musk Wants To Know 'How Much Is Hasbro?'

What about this looks stable to you? Also, while Musk has declined to report profit numbers since the acquisition, it's pretty widely acknowledged that despite massive cost-cutting, between steeply declining revenue and huge loan paybacks, Twitter/X has likely still not achieved...

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

Yes. There's an added tool proficiency for pipes! (And you can use it to gain inspiration after a smoking session.)

The Lord of the Rings Roleplaying Added to D&D Beyond

Characters are roughly in the same ballpark as regular D&D 5e PCs, but I haven't playtested to see how that works out at the table. There are no spells, and it's worth mentioning that Callings (i.e. classes) only go to 10th level (as is called out on the DDB product page in a couple of places)...

WotC Some Rich Dude Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" and I Refuse to Care

Hell is where every die roll ends up cocked... and you're not even the one rolling. You're just watching someone else roll, and reroll, and reroll... "oops, cocked again!"... when will you ever get your turn??!!

Elon Musk Calls for Wizards of the Coast to "Burn in Hell" Over Making of Original D&D Passages

Once again, I am foiled by the absence of a head-smack response emoji.
