Amen. I think it's a matter of approach. Just as you point out, the one says "I like this because it does such and such". That's focused and is not launching ammunition against an opponent. Thus is no part of any war. But saying "you must be a moron for liking that version" is a clear attack. So...

I just looked through the rules again and didn't see it, but the rules do state that if a moderator makes a ruling, no matter how much you disagree, you have to abide by it. So, if a moderator says don't, I won't. For you, though, you would be bound by the moderator's warning you saw. ;)

Amen. I have a lifetime ban for being the victim of a gang up by 3 blatant CoC violators. Gotta love RPGnet. Just be sure that if you're going to participate in edition wars that you are the one blatantly violating the CoC, as you'll only get the occasional mild public reprimand (ohh, torture...

Forked Thread: What is the difference between Science Fiction and Fantasy?

I like this viewpoint. Definitely in the realist, non-elitist viewpoint. All fantasy and science fiction is speculative. It is fiction first and science and/or supernatural second.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

I'm afraid you're confusing an anti-hero for an underdog.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

Yes. Absolutely. If the actor is as handsome and charismatic. Cary Elwes was a virtual unknown when he turned Princess Bride into a lasting international cultural phenomenon. All you need is the right person in the role. Pirates of the Caribbean became a phenomenon because the right story was...

Forked Thread: What is the difference between Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Okay, wow. No. SF didn't even exist before the nineteenth century, but fantasy has existed in the form of myths since the beginning of time. There is no way in any reality in which fantasy is an outgrowth of SF.

4th Edition made a great Paladin...

I take it you found something that supports my view, but at the same time, you're certainly right. While I painted the majority as cruel, perhaps it was actually a minority, but my point still holds that you don't have to be "good" to be in the place of a holy warrior, as the holy warrior has...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

At what point do my statements contradict what you're saying here? And by what definition is an anti-hero not evil? Did I not say that he was a "bad guy who is after his own ends" or that "he's not exactly the prince of goody-two-shoes heroes"? How does this not describe someone evil? Just...

Cleric and Paladin - What's the Difference?

Authority? A Cleric is ordained and a Paladin isn't? :) "I don't make the law, I just enforce it with my mighty Avenger and my dashing good looks." :D

    Death of the LGS

Until recently, Amazon was getting reported enumerable times on its refusal to live up to its promises and obligations as a service provider, siting such things as endless runarounds and unfulfilled promises, such as replacement products that would never arrive, or purchased products arriving...

Forked Thread: What is the difference between Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Put's hand up: "ooo, ooo, me, me!" Moorcock is a devout athiest and bases his Elric mythos upon the works of Edgar Rice Burroughs (another devout athiest) and germanic mythology. You only see any reference to Christian grounds in the Von Bek and Cornelius series', and Behold the Man. The...

4th Edition made a great Paladin...

Yes. Sorry, I was forgetting myself. The Templars arose from the Crusaders (though the Templars still became the equivellent to the mafia, offering "protection" and insurance, sometimes being the very ones doing the robbing on the road) when the Crusaders no longer had a Crusade. So yes, I was...

4th Edition made a great Paladin...

Well, they were promised riches and admittance to heaven no matter what sins they committed prior to, during, or after the invasion of the holy land. The promise of riches and the freedom to rape whomever their perverse desires incite them to, to torture for the shear fun of it, and to murder at...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

Because Sparrow is by definition a bad guy who is only after his own ends, but ends up doing the right thing when it's most important. There's no better definition of an anti-hero. He's not exactly the prince of goody-two-shoes heroes.

Forked Thread: What is the difference between Science Fiction and Fantasy?

Forked from: Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily? That's a philosophical question, not a scientific question.
