Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

LOL. You're surprised that I don't spend my time in the basement poring over books on the psychological effect of names? ROFL. I can't stand it! Make him stop! ROFL.

"The Tubes"? I'm from the 80's. What are "the tubes"?

ROFL. Now you're going for a personal attack. You're so smooth. I just can't compete. You're like Dorf on logic. ROFL. I'm dyin'! ROFL.

OMG. A name IS a non-issue. I don't even know why I even bothered arguing it with you now. Especially now that I know the logic that was guiding it.

ROFL. This just moved into the realm of the ridiculously bizarre. Sorry, man. I'm losing respect for you by the second.

By the way, the game isn't named after races. It's named after a structure and a creature, not two races. Your argument still holds no water.

Wow. I guess you missed the WHOLE rest of the post. Moving on.

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

More bad stuff here, man. Would you call it Sahaugin and Githyanki? Because they're in the game too. Or going on the race thing, how about Humans & Halflings? Really interesting there. But I'd go more for life and space in the vein of the real name, Rooms & Ropers. You see, I can make other D&D...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

The question "what's in a name?" now enters the picture. You could quote Shakespear's "woulds't a rose by any other name smell as sweet?" Come on, you call a high elf an Eladrin, and suddenly it's not a high elf? For cryin' out loud, does a Cherokee stop being Indian because you call him a...

Is D&D 4E too "far out" to expand the market easily?

This is one of the few negative points regarding 4e that I can agree with. Yes, the fantasy element of 4e is a tad disconnecting because it's hard to suspend belief. I think that is a trend that began with 3e, but I think it has more to do with the art than the mechanics.

Oh man, those were the days. I miss 1e. :D (Though 4e is quite fun too)

    Players Vs. DMs

The Stormbringer curse is an example of a curse that has a roleplaying aspect along with a benefit of its use, while having a devastating aspect to the character and those around him. It makes for powerful storytelling.

    Players Vs. DMs

Yeah, I think I agree. A cursed item should be handled in a way that is either amusing or advances the plot. Player torture should not be part of it unless the player can have fun with it.

    Death of the LGS

Again, I don't believe I specified online vendors as the only ones affected by the cap, though my focus was indeed online vendors, but the law should apply to all, not just online vendors. It's not like online vendors should be picked on. It's just that their undercutting is exactly what...

    Death of the LGS

No. Absolutely not. That's far too narrow and neither of us mentioned anything about minimum prices. That would be impossible to regulate. We said to affect only "discounts". I don't know about Aria, but I never said to limit it to gaming products. I was speaking of general discount caps...

    Death of the LGS

ROFL. OMG!!! How do you go from putting a cap to online discounts to arresting grandmas? Give me a break, dude. Let's keep in the realm of realism, shall we? We weren't talking about arrests. We're talking about price control, which, as Bill Clinton showed, is not only within the realm of...

You know 4th edition has succeeded when...

Just to show that my two points are cohesive: Lorraine Williams sank TSR because she was a bad business manager (that was my point about Buck Rogers). Her not updating D&D properly is another example of her mismanagement. In fact, her focus on Buck Rogers is one of the reasons she didn't give...

    Death of the LGS

What I said is a very real scenario that economists have been very concerned with since the advent of online sales, and even more so now as the internet revolution is in full swing and the public is becoming increasingly more internet savvy and young computer users turn into adult computer...

By "elitists", I should have said "rules elitists". People who think that crunching rules and numbers is what roleplaying is about. Last I checked, the definition of "roleplaying" is that you are "playing a role". But that's another issue. Let's get back to the topic at hand. By the way, for...
