Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

This. I was going to post exactly about this POV, so I'll just add a though to it. The same way the fighter does not know his power does 2W, he also may not even define that specific action as a "Power". Martial powers are called exploits and not maneuvers, and I think, being a concidence or...

Design & Development: Warlord Article UP!

    I think 4E is more like Prêt-à-Porter.

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

It is. It makes you look at fireboxes and see fireballs.

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

We don't need to have an autocad chip in our brains to intuitively understand that A is farther from B than C. All we need is one functioning eye to see that. That's what this thread is all about. How we can be betrayed by our intuitive senses of space and distance under 1-1-1-1 rules, and...

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

Of course. Fun is what makes me accept roundish squared rooms, fireboxes, nipleless breasted reptiles without getting tired and bleeding. Beer helps too.

    Long-Term Injury Fun?

I've seen some "Trauma Systems" where Healing rituals could make you heal your traumas at a faster rate.

    craft as non-magic "ritual"

It actually works better in a RPG than in a MMO, since you just say to the DM you are going to mine all day long, make a mining check, and you are done ;)

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

Yes, this sucks. Another good example that shows how 1-1-1-1 makes the game looks goofy. 1-1-1-1 is really about making the game a little faster, a little easier, and a lot sillier.

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

So far, what I've learned about 4E wonkiness is that square rooms are actually round rooms, fireballs are actually fireboxes, reptiles have breasts and when you are tired you start to bleed, but if you play chess, Civilization and WoW, there is no reason to feel odd about all that.

    craft as non-magic "ritual"

The more this part of D&D aproximates from WoW, the better. I like the idea of rituals to handle crafting. Hot Worg Ribs Ritual level 1 Price: 5 gp Creating time: 1 hour Requirements: Cooking Fire Effect: Eating one Hot Worg Ribs keeps you well fed for one day. Your healing surges heal 1 extra...

    Long-Term Injury Fun?

Another example that came to my mind is the story curse/poison/disease. Someone in these boards once complained about D&D since the system was too limited and could not handle a poison that, for example, would kill the character in 30 days. There is no need of rules for that poison. It a story...

Okay, where do you stand on diagonal movement?

I stand with 1-2-1-2. But after seeing some of the powers, I think house ruling 4E won't be so easy, so I'll probably keep half of my brain at home and just use 1-1-1-1.

    Long-Term Injury Fun?

I think that long term injuries should be part of a plot, or a story mechanism. Not something that may happen in a random basis. For example, when fighting the BBEG one of the character receives a hit that would kill him outright, as dropping him directly to -10 or by massive damage. Instead of...

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

He wasn't gaming anything, he just tried to stay as far away from the entrance of the corridor as he could. Intuitively, the place he choosed to stay was farther than staying in the wall directly opposed to the entrance.

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

The player made the wrong choice because when he was 10 years old he learned the Pythagorean theorem.

    Diagonal wonkiness scenarios

Same thing happened in my game. The PC was in the middle of a square room and monsters were coming in from a corridor on the top. The PC ran down to one of the corners of the room to stay as far as possible, but the monster reached him anyway. His tactical choice was intuitively correct, but it...

    D&D 4E Trauma and damage in 4e

I'm trying to think on a better way to deal Trauma points. I've been thinking on 1 TP when character receives a critical hit, or when the damage of a hit exceeds his Bloodied values, or everytime the character drops to 0 or lower HP. Any ideas?
