D&D 5E (2014) How would you like 5e to handle combat roles.

I like the 1e approach to magic-users. 1) Magic is dangerous to the caster and other people. 2) Magic often has a price. (haste ages you a year and a system shock roll) 3) Spell casting is easily disrupted. 4) Spellbooks are easily destroyed (well most items are). 5) Spells can be hard to...

AD&D 1E Check out what Kinkos did to My 1e AD&D UA

They are pretty secure but I would still not be too rough with it.

AD&D 1E Check out what Kinkos did to My 1e AD&D UA

5 bucks I have another one that is in almost mint condition but this one has the standard bad binding of the UA's and pages have been falling out for awhile. Since it turned out so well I am looking through all my books now for anything that needs attention. :) As a side note the guy said...

Adventurer Conqueror King as a preview of D&D Next?

I am ok with Thaco since I play 1e and use the 2e Thaco chart anyway. :) For us Thaco is just as fast as the 3e way of doing things but we don't give out ACs. We just roll and tell them DM what we hit. Its fast.

Covers for the AD&D 1E Reprints

This might be the first money WoTC has gotten from me since before Book of Nine Swords.

I don't envy WoTC right now...not at all.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you like 5e to handle combat roles.

Even after UA came out people still carried different weapons. It also was the case that we did not use magic shops so you made use of what you got. You might be double specialized in a longsword but when you need a +3 weapon to damage that monster, you are glad you kept that dagger. Also gear...

Adventurer Conqueror King as a preview of D&D Next?

How well do you think the domain/mass combat rule would translate to a 1e game?

Another shot at nerfing casters for balance

I would like to see a link to this 1% vs 99%.....thanks. Also we roll stats so casters are not always getting a 18 in a primary stat.

Adventurer Conqueror King as a preview of D&D Next?

Mass Combat How to do folks handle this anyway in general? whether it be ACK, Rules Cyclopedia or Kingmaker. Does anyone actually use unit counters and maps and move troops around?

    D&D 5E (2014) I hope 5E springs from SW Saga Edition

I like SAGA and its the closest I ever want to get to 4e (which we played for almost 2 years regrettably). Thankfully my therapy is going well with PF and 1e. When we don't play Dark Heresy and want something more 'sci fantasy' and less dark we play SW SAGA.

Another shot at nerfing casters for balance

This is how we currently do it in AD&D 1e, but it can work in other editions. 1) Spell casters must declare if they are casting spells before init is rolled. 2) One d6 is rolled PER side, high die goes first. If its a tie we re roll or sometimes if we feel like it we do everything...

D&D 5E (2014) Should we let the 'Wierd Wizard Show' begin in 5e?

I like the 1e approach...so thats my answer. 1) Magic is dangerous to the caster and other people. 2) Magic often has a price. (haste ages you a year and a system shock roll) 3) Spell casting is easily disrupted. 4) Spellbooks are easily destroyed (well most items are). 5) Spells can be hard...

Social Skills, starting to bug me.

What I said is correct. "I would just rather the DM play off of how I actually do it in character than rely on my dice roll. " A dice ROLL based off a SKILL. Its still making a ruling based off of roleplaying and is irrelevant whether people play the characters or themselves. If a player is...

Social Skills, starting to bug me.

Something else I just though about. I police myself and my own characters when it comes to playing. I don't need skills to do that but it is what it is.
