Company of the Bloodoath. We actually swore a bloodoath to hunt down and kill and ancient red dragon who had bullyied and made us pay a magic item tax to live on evening. Spent a year and a half going on quest after quest to prepare for the battle.

1e and 2e.., In our 1e/2e game we declare before the roll but it's mainly to identify who is going to start casting (but not the actual spell) for spell disruption.

We do it that way in our 1e game and always have (default 1e initiative is rough)

Yep, but we want combat to be even faster, so its been 'modernized'.

Rolling dice every round for everyone would slow it down...I know, we did it in 3.5 and PF. Now we are back to old school and roll once at the start of combat for each side.

Personally I have not seen many problems with hex, both hex and square just have things you need to get used to. I prefer hex indoors and outdoors during combats. Especially for area effect spells like fireballs and cones. Also if you use facing, its much better, but thats just a rare bonus...

I disagree, both 1e and 5e are fast and furious.

We did an Arcane Age Myth Drannor one... Basically we used the magic spell thats in one of those Arcane Age box sets (can't remember which one) to go back in time. Our goal was to prevent the fall of Myth Drannor...this was AD&D 1e (with some 2e mixed in). It was so long ago I don't remember...

Yeah 4e grind was terrible for us.

We use the 2ed Monster Manuals a lot in our 1e game. Really helps to ramp up monsters like Giants...

Exactly....its easy to pretend the 4e change never happened AND you can still use the 5e FR stuff if you want.
