Interaction between Essassin and a Familiar

This is my initial thought also. I'm not familiar with Familiars of Eberron, is this specifically an Assassin's familiar? If so, I could see treating the familiar as something the Assassin can "use," and might allow it.

    Level Up!

I award the same xp even to missing players, to avoid this problem. It works out well because I rarely have a player miss more than one game in a row, and we just have somebody else run his or her character that session. And it also avoids the problem of having everyone except one or two...

Only ten articles in Dragon this month?

So I think we both just pretty much said the same thing: The mmo industry is going free-to-play (in part) because of WoW, who is the planetary-sized gorilla of the industry and doesn't have to. But you can't just say that because WotC is the largest player in the PnP industry, it's equivalent...

Need advice for dealing w/an invoker.

Strikers, controllers, and minions. Intelligent opponents will see him as a threat and act accordingly. Set up multiple threats and make him have to make difficult decisions.

    party wants railroading

How about asking one or more of them to DM for awhile? Let them see what it's like on the other side of the screen. If they think they have a good idea of what they want, let them run some sessions so they and the rest of the group can try it on for size. It could be that you actually learn...

Only ten articles in Dragon this month?

Well if WotC are trying to leverage MMO-style subscription pricing, they are behind the curve. The MMO industry is starting to move away from the monthly subscription model and into the free-to-play with microtransactions model. Turbine (makers of Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons &...

    party wants railroading

Hmmm...could it be that you've introduced too much role-playing, and their request for more hack and slash is just symptomatic of this problem? Just a thought off the top of my head. What I'd do is figure out where they're coming from on this request. What is it that they feel they're...

Only ten articles in Dragon this month?

Speaking of the old format, I really think that by dropping the compiled PDF, they really missed an opportunity to sell ad space. Maybe they put some feelers out behind the scenes and decided ads just weren't going to bring in enough revenue, but I do wonder. I'd have dropped Dungeon in favor...

    Quick Gelatinous Cube question

Some years ago the DM described exactly that to us players: "just at the edge of your vision you see what looks like a bunch of bones, some coins, an old boot, and some other unidentifiable bits, all floating in the air." Before anyone can get a word in... The thief: "I walk up and prod it...

Was I being a dick to do this.

So I'm thinking the OP probably has enough information at this point to decide if he was being a dick or not. Beyond epeen flexing, is there really any reason at all to continue this thread?

    D&D 4E 4e Fisticuffs?

When you punch a guy in the head, he gets maybe a concussion or a broken jaw or nose. Rarely, he dies. When you swing a sword at a guy, he loses parts of his body. The odds of dying are a lot greater. Whether you're swinging a sword in a fight (bar or otherwise), you're not trying not to...

    D&D 4E 4e Fisticuffs?

I'm not a game designer, I just play one on TV. So I would classify fisticuffs less lethal than, say, a long sword. :)

Only ten articles in Dragon this month?

I was looking at the magazine contents this morning, and was thinking the exact same thing. This can no longer be written down to efficiencies in the process, as they have claimed. Something larger is going on, and I suspect nobody is going to like it when they finally have to fess up about it.

    2/7 DDI Update

Certainly. But I'm not saying for them to anticipate the future. (well, they *should* anticipate the future, but that's not part of my argument) I'm just saying to do what any normal development shop would do: draw a line in the sand at where the old product left off, and create a framework...
