D&D 5E (2014) No good deed goes unpunished

Agree. I'd say the village elder says he'll spend the night working out how to divide the gold. In the morning he and the gold are gone, along with the constable's prized warhorse. He rides off to the city, rents a room at a brothel, and stays there drinking and whoring for as long as he's able...

    Edit: WTF stupid forum engine?

Ugh, ugh, ugh! I am really seriously pissed off at the EnWorld forum system right now. Yesterday I very definitely clicked the "Make this thread a poll" button, followed by the "Preview Post" button. 100% sure about that. Preview Post. I very carefully composed the wording of the poll...

    Edit: WTF stupid forum engine?

An obvious followup question from the prevalence of the "homebrew" answer to http://www.enworld.org/forum/showthread.php?594885-Which-adventure-are-you-currently-running Edit: never mind, ignore this stupid thread. Very annoyed. Yesterday I very definitely clicked the "Make this thread a poll"...

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Capstones- BARBARIAN WINS!

Barbarian (Primal Champion) 19 Cleric (Divine Intervention Auto) 15 Druid (Archdruid) 6 Fighter (Third Extra Attack) 6 Paladin (Sacred Oath Feature/Varies) 17 I oppose the one minute adventuring day. Rogue (Stroke of Luck) 17 Wizard (Signature Spell) 19 I don't want to vote anything up this time.

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Capstones- BARBARIAN WINS!

Capstone is not an officially defined term. I think it makes more sense to define it by mechanics than by labels. What do you gain by staying with a single class for all 20 levels? This is often identical to the named level 20 feature, but not always. For example, Monk and Sorcerer gain a 20th...

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Capstones- BARBARIAN WINS!

Barbarian (Primal Champion)19 Cleric (Divine Intervention Auto) 17 freaking Miracle! Druid (Archdruid) 9 freaking ponies? Sucks for everyone except Moon. Fighter (Third Extra Attack) 15 Paladin (Sacred Oath Feature/Varies) 21 Rogue (Stroke of Luck) 19 Wizard (Signature Spell) 17

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Capstones- BARBARIAN WINS!

Don't forget unlimited rage. Day-long strength advantage & damage resistance, plus whatever features your Path adds on (charm immunity? bonus dash? flight? storm aura?) at the cost of one bonus action per minute. Lots of non-combat utility possibilities.

    D&D 5E (2014) Katana in 5th edition - finesse?

Most importantly, elves need to DUAL WIELD those scimitars.

    D&D 5E (2014) 538's Race/Class data, in relative terms

Good questions. I don't have the raw data; all I'm going on is the table posted at FiveThirtyEight, which listed the number of class-race pairs per 100000 characters. The totals came out to a little over 109000, so about 9% was multiclassing, but I don't know individual character details. LOL...

    D&D 5E (2014) Survivor Capstones- BARBARIAN WINS!

POINT OF ORDER: I request that the definition of capstone should include all features and improvements that occur at level 20: Ftr, Pal, Ran, Rog: named feature only full casters: also a 7th level spell slot Monk & Sorc: also a ki/sorc point Barb: also unlimited rage Barbarian (Primal...

    D&D 5E (2014) 538's Race/Class data, in relative terms

Unfortunately, the original thread for this topic got hopelessly derailed, so here's a fork. Rather than look at absolute numbers, I thought it might be more useful to compensate for relative popularity of races & classes, showing a better metric of which combinations are considered good or bad...

    D&D 5E (2014) making 5E more "old school" (updated)

1E Equipment Conversion Armor: Banded Armor: rename Breastplate. We're done. I didn't realize it would be that easy. Weapons: Some of the following items are strictly inferior to existing ones, which is exactly like they were in 1E. (But Gary Gygax really loved the Ranseur.) Name Category...

    D&D 5E (2014) Question about feats in 5e.

<dino> It is not physically possible for a teenager to have run D&D games "for a very long time". </dino> Anyways, most people on gamer discussion boards are D&D veterans from either 3.x or 4E, where feats were not just allowed, but mandatory. I think it's great that 5E is playable without...

    D&D 5E (2014) Paladin, Oath of the Anti-Arcane

Not bad work (and great art!) but you got the name completely wrong. It's very clearly "Oath of the Witch Hunter".

    D&D 5E (2014) making 5E more "old school" (updated)

I just dug out my box of old books and put them on my gaming supplies shelf. If my group wants to try actual 1E, it'll be glorious and terrible at the same time. Hell yes we're calculating speed factor.

    D&D 5E (2014) making 5E more "old school" (updated)

Over in the "What adventure are you playing?" poll thread, I started thinking about simulating older editions within 5E. 1st draft: focused mainly on making the mechanics match more. 2nd draft: I think it's more important to make good changes. beta release: further simplification of classes...

D&D 5E (2014) Which adventure are you currently running?

If they chose 1E mainly for the novelty & experience of going old school, I can grok that feeling. I've tried most of the different editions (and several other game systems) and the knowledge of how they work (both good and bad) definitely adds depth to my current games. But if they chose 1E...

D&D 5E (2014) Which adventure are you currently running?

Interesting. Amazon's fastest selling modules are currently Tomb, Lost Mine (Starter Set), and Strahd. There's very little correlation there. Would it be worthwhile to post a followup poll about adventure TYPE? official WotC 5E product non-WotC 5E product (e.g. DMs Guild) homebrew conversion...
