    D&D General Substituting 3Z7 for D20

With this system we would rarely get a critical hit or a critical fumble. It would be much rarer than getting a1 or 20 on a d20. Some might consider that a good thing.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you deal with expensive material components in your campaigns?

I generally rule on the side of whatever interpretation makes it harder on the player characters. In this case it would take a whole 25gp flask of holy water. This approach in general i think helps to control outlandish combinations. Not perhaps specifically with this example but in general.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you deal with expensive material components in your campaigns?

Spell compartments is actually one of my favorite parts of dungeons and dragons.

D&D 5E (2014) How do you deal with expensive material components in your campaigns?

How about those for a house rule: Casting a spell without it's required material components raises the spell's level by 1. For example, casting Resurrection without the 1,000 gold piece diamond would raise the spell's level to 8th. If this would raise the spell's level above 9th then it is not...

    Can WotC be forgiven?

In my opinion (and this opinion will be met with much opposition) is that they* done did this once before. They do not like the Open Gaming license. Last time they did this we used the License against them, and it hurt them. This time they're going** for the License itself. With their comments...

    Can WotC be forgiven?

I don't know,...maybe 10 years of good behavior. They've admitted they think the OGL 1.0(a) is revocable. That is the very heart of the matter.

WotC Walks Back Some OGL Changes, But Not All

This is not enough. What I want to see is this convenient language from the "draft"* 1.1 OGL: "nonexclusive, perpetual, irrevocable, worldwide, sub-licensable". Added to a new OGL 1.0(z). I didn't include the "royalty-free" part because I think they do deserve some royalties. I think 25% is...

OGL: What Are The Publishers Saying [UPDATED]

Maybe it has been released, exactly as it's was leaked, and the above companies have already signed on to it. Maybe that's why they're not talking.

    So how do we respond?

Let's face it. We all knew this would happen when Hasbro bought the game.

    So how do we respond?

I can't wait to see a dramatic movie about this some day.

    So how do we respond?

I've been excited about the 50th anniversary, but I've been dreading switching to a new edition. I like 5th but I haven't had enough time with it. Due to a long standing Pathfinder campaign my Table didn't switch to 5th edition till 2018. Then we lost 2 years during the Pandemic. I expect to...

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Very well, carry on. But I'm watching you guys. No more funny business.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

We need to nip this in the bud right now. The distance for being 'off-target' is not 1d10 x 10 miles. It is instead, 1d10 x 1d10 percent of the distance that was to be teleported. Therefore, if we tried to teleport 1 mile, then 1 mile is the maximum distance we can be off target. there is no...

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Sorry, I was just trying to call attention to another thread from yesterday that was uncannily similar to this one.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

It's actually 1d10 x 1d10. Which makes for a very strange range of possible values.

    D&D 5E (2014) Teleport Houserule: Remove the Off-Target %distance

Sounds like a Modern Magic problem. If magic is knowable and predictable then yeah, we better know where the teleportation circles are located. But, if magic is mysterious, then we may not always know what we're going to get*. Players: "Hey! No fair! This hidden teleportation circle we just...

    1d10 x 1d10

Oops, I was confusing this with the chance of mishaps table. So, it's a beneficial distribution. Weird, but beneficial.

    1d10 x 1d10

I wonder if the developers knew what they were doing when they chose this multiplication method of generating a percentage. The distribution is highly skewed away from being "on target".
