Macguffin quest without a macguffin, how would you respond?

Add my voice to the others that have 'I wouldn't mind discovering that the MacGuffin didn't exist but I would want the quest to have a purpose'. So I discover the Uber-Maga-Weapon of Mega-Uberness didn't exist; that's fine. I still want the quest to have had a useful purpose though. I want my...

Are Bards Fascinating in the Dungeon?

Bolding by me... How do Bard manage to do this combat?

Are Bards Fascinating in the Dungeon?

My current bard has had one chance to use Suggestion (or, at least there has only been one time that I had a chance to use it AND remembered I had the ability). That was when he was tossed into a prison cell. My Bards 'suggested' that the guards go to their boss to confirm something (I don't...

    The Magic-Walmart myth

You mean you've never heard someone use Steampunk as a put-down to a setting or style? I've heard it quite a bit. As far as D&D goes I've heard it used as a derogatory term a lot in conjunction with Eberron. I've heard people try to use it as one. I will admit that in most (if not all) of...

    The Magic-Walmart myth

To add to this list: Wal-Mart has also been attributed with some controvercy (labor practices, etc). These may or may not be deserved (and I really want to avoid THAT debate and I am trying to stay neutral here) but I think we can all agree that the controvercy is there no matter if we believe...

    OotS #469

...only had six seasons didn't it? Over the course of eight years (I think) but only six seasons. I think the use of the word "seasons" in the panel is a goof. That is the non-definative ending that caused a major uproar recently.

    The Magic-Walmart myth

Our group recently went over to the RPGA item system. This was decided after a couple of us (players and DM included) had our head sexplode when it took over two hours to devide loot that everyone basically sold off anyway (clean up after that session was real [bleep]). What was the point of...

Do you plan out your character's advancement in advance?

When I build a character I (almost) always have an idea where I am headed with it. Sometimes I have a D&D character plotted out for 20 levels, sometimes only two or three. The character doens't always end up following that track and ends up taking feats, classes, skills that I hadn't planned...

Why did WotC start the Polymorph "Errata Wars"?

While I don't remember all of the details of the Polmoprh "Horror Stories" I have heard; I think this link covers (at leats most of) the basics of the issue: The Polymorph Problem

    DM or GM?

I am a player. I use DM for D&D. GM for almost everything else.

    2007 Worst Season Finale (spoilers)

I haven't seen many of them (I don't get HBO so no Sopranos or Wire for me) so I had to go with the underwelming 24. I liked most of Lost even if the sacrifice a character made seemed forced (this is of course assuming said character doesn't pull a Mikhail and come back to life next season).

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

I'm missing something here... With the given example that would let one character do the combat (one space outside of the critter's reach). So then the critter side steps out of the way. Presumably (not sure where the critter is chained in the room so I don't know where it can and can not...

Is 3.5e beginning to suffer from rules bloat?

I will agree with what others have above: Rules bloat? Not so much. Options bloat? Yes. And while the term "bloat" makes it sound negative - I like the multitude of options I have. I like having new classes, PrCs and feats so I, for one, don't have a problem with this "Options Bloat".

This game is ridiculous -- same problems for years

Only three female henchdragons? He wasn't even trying. Seriously though... If there is a rule set there will be players that will try to bend and break said ruleset. If there is no way to "win" there will be players who will try to "win". This has always been true and always will be true...

    Do you participate in Polls?

Yes I do... And I have now participated in another one... And increased my post count to boot. Thank you for this wonderful opprotunity.

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

Sorry, bad phrasing on my part. Maybe in this particular example retreating is the best option after the party opens the door and (whatever it is) yells in their face. I don't know this adventure so I don't know all of the details and the PCs won't either. I don't if it is the equivalent of a...

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

Who says the critter isn't moving? Maybe it's heading in the other direction (running scared or going to get help). Maybe it will call in help from the next room (making the room even more crowded). Just because it doesn't persue doesn't mean it just sits there. The last thing players want to...

    Commeth the Banhammer...

My DM hasn't banned much (if anything). The players got together and effectively banned the Frenzied Berzerker on our side of the screen. Our DM has had us fight one, but when one of the players wanted to go into the class we got together and changed his mind.

Why you shouldn't use 5 ft corridors

I agree with Merric. One or two challenging fights from narrow/cramped spaces are fine. But when it becomes an entire adventure where only a couple of people are able to participate in the combat there is an issue. I am not familier with "There is no Honor" so I can't comment on that...

    Epic

Our group is in the middle of an Epic Level Campaign that we started at first level. The first big thing that we've noticed is that fights take forever. Depending on the length of the session I would say two fights max. Even then that can go very long if "something goes horribly wrong" for...
