    New May WotC cover art

Hey, even Drow need some days off.

How did you get your start

My first exposure to RPGs was with Pool of Radience on the Commodore 64. I was sold instantly. From there it was on to Bard's Tale, Wizardry and Buck Rogers. I didn't have a chance to get into a table top game until many years later.

Illusionist with a hostage, what would you do?

Is it a bad sign that when I read the title of this thread my first thoughts were: "Pop Quiz! ... What do you do?" "Shoot the hostage."

    Favorite Level: Players

Medium levels. High enough in power to have a few tricks up my sleeve but low enough that I don't have to worry about losing the character and all of the backstory because of one unlucky Saving Throw roll.

    I would play a bard if. . .

I'm currently playing a bard and having a blast.

    Game vs. Story

Agreed. I'm a player in my game and I voted for Story. Of the two options I'm there more for the story than the game (though from time to time I "really need to bash in orc skulls"). We have other players that are there for the game and any character development or plot advancement is an...

    Maths errors in RPGs

I also agree that you probobly aren't in the minority on this issue. At the very least you can add me to the group of people who don't really care. So values are off by 1 or 2. I don't care if a NPC's stats in Underwater Basket Weaving is supposed to be a +17 instead of a +16. I don't care...

Spells that are annoying to DMs

Mordenkainen's Disjunction - After my DM cast it he vowed to either never cast it again or figure out a way to speed it up. He knew it would be nasty but he didn't realise what would happen. In order to speed up the game he rolled 100+ saves for the items ahead of time. It still caused the...

    The Illusion of Powergaming

I will second the disagreement with this statement. Figuring out where your character is now and then going back and figuring out where they have been is, in my experience, a great way to create a character. And a fully fleshed out character at that. I will admit that how I usually come up...

What Do Your Players Think of Splatbooks?

My DM loves splatbooks. I love splatbooks. We both agree tha they are sometimes over powered but that for the vast majority of the time they are fine. When a new splatbook is released it get mind for ideas and options.

What are your thoughts on ANIME's influence on D&D?

Oh... they are out there. None of my martial arts instruction shouted ("why expend the energy to shout?") but I has seen demos that did. The one I remember in particular was an Akido weapons demonstration. They went through all of the targets and stated the names to the audience (arm, leg...

    New "Dead Levels"

My current 3rd edition character has a stronghold and is raising an army. He definatly has a personality and reputation that isn't based on his character sheet... well... let me rephrase that: isn't based ONLY on his character sheet. I think his insanely high charisma score (he's a bard)...

    New "Dead Levels"

Quite possibly. Now, I agree that levels where you get an ability score boost or a standard feat choice (talking about every 3rd level - not fighter bonus feats or similar) aren't really "dead levels". The problem is that it doesn't matter what class level you take; you'll be getting those...

    Cohort Idol

Currently using a cohort. A Rogue/Chameleon. We needed a rogue in our group as the player of the last one had just retired his character and the Chameleon PrC helps fill any gap we may have from a misisng player. No entry for the contest since a 4th level cohort couldn't get the PrC and thus...

    Which image is better?

Definately A. The B version comes across to me as being too sickly.

New Design Paradigms - What are they and are they good or bad?

The problem with including these levels into the calculation is the same problem as increasing spellcasting progression: you will be getting that benefit no matter what. If you are gaining a third character level you gain the feat no matter what class level you gain. So if you are debating...

    Why do you love/hate Drizzt?

Now, to be fair - I will preface this by saying that I never read The Crystal Shard until 2001 and then I only read it to find out what all of the fandom was about. That said: What I think of when I think of Drizzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz *wakes up* Oh, sorry - dozed off there. It's...

Do Artifacts have a market cost?

If you don't mind me rephrasing the question slightly... There should be a GP cost - but not a market cost. billd91 is correct in that if there is a "market" cost that means there is a market for them and for anything that is listed as an artifact there shouldn't be a market for them...

Worst Stat Rolls You Have Seen

I once had to roll six times before I got a character that wasn't considered hopeless by the PHB. Part of the reason why our group now uses point-buy.

    Hit Points and D&D

It may be a feature or a bug depending on what kind of game you want to run. To me, personally - it is a bug. Wounds/Vitality means that any PC can be taken out by any low level mook at any time. A 20th level character I have been playing for years on end gets killed by Peon #3 at the start...
