Book of 9 Swords: One discipline Only?

Flavor is nice. I like the flavor of being a wandering martial artist, practicing multiple styles, too, very much in flavor of the "Martial Arts Master". Further, Druids can easily be powerful by limiting them to PHB only, and allowing no other supplements or feats. Your stance on Swordsages...

Book of 9 Swords: One discipline Only?

You know balance well enough to know why, come on. You are adding 4 to all his attack and damage rolls. You changed fire to ice, (There is no similar feat for fire, so that dumps 4 of his hit, and 4 of his damage right there, if he was a core swordsage, not to mention the feat itself is not a...

Book of 9 Swords: One discipline Only?

Rystil also allowed the guy the Stygian mark that adds 2d6 cold dmg, which is only available to evil people of a certain blah blah to a neutral guy for extra cold damage, from the Fiendish Codex. Swordsages are not overpowered, the specific combo Rystil manufactured with feats that shouldnt all...

Group has: Thri-Kreen Warblade, Human Crusader/Warblade, Another Fighter type of indeterminate type, and me. I was originally gonna do a Changeling Warblade/Warshaper, until i saw what everyone else was...

    Kobold

Dragonfire Adept gets a dragonwings ability at level 6, so I could get 2 feats back by taking it, but neither Warlock nor Dragonfire Adept seems good at being an Arcane Caster. What about Warmage? Like a Sorcerer, but without the miniscule spells known issue?

    Kobold

The nice thing about the Dragonfire adept is it gives skills, and breath weapon, and stuff, the breath effects are nice too, and cones and stuff are automatic. A few less invocations than warlock, but more flavorful for a dragon, imo Still, it seems sort of weak, mechanically.

Trying again: What would it take to get _you_ to use core only?

I have a number of core concepts I could settle on for bennies. The big penalty is losing out on the possibility of shield fighting, or whatever, and having to go pure basic power attacking cleaver, or whatever. But, if the bennies were exciting enough, I'd take them. I'd still rather play...

    Kobold

If I go semicaster, I'd go Dragonfire Adept, rather than Warlock, but yeah, I considered that. I'd love to do Fighter, but the group REALLY doesnt need another fighter. Nor does it need a scout, I dont think. Its completely without any sort of arcane caster, though.

I looked at Dragonfire Adept, but it seemed kinda underwhelming.

    Kobold

I am considering playing a Dragonwrought Kobold with Improved Dragon Wings, so basically with all feats pre-chosen, and I want to make a spellcaster type Kobold. I'd like some suggestions on base class/prestige class combos you'd do. I'm not sure at all where I want to take it...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

Wow, the personal attacks just keep coming. So far you've proved you can throw insults around, and you've proved that you claim you can GM, and beyond throwing insults around and making wild statements, I see nothing else. Come back when your ability is proven. Probably find a new set of...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

Ales and Whores are cheap. Coppers dont impact the wagonload of treasure that come out of any written adventure, let alone "old style" dungeons. I recall Gary Gygax telling the Tomb Of Horrors story where the PC's had to cart the treasure out in 4 wagons, there was so much. Conan didnt need a...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

Whats this, a 20,000gp hooker and night on the town? I bet that will help kill the BBEG and Demon. Perhaps if I buy a nice enough house, the BBEG wont kill the innocent villagers, or ressurect the dead God? Perhaps if you try harder, I'll be insulted instead of amused. Hotshot, though. I like it.

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

A chip on my shoulder? Probably a boulder. Just like you, and your fellow posters will rant about trying to give as little as possible to the players. I do run my own game, its called, "Mutants and Masterminds" and I bet if I did run D&D, it'd be very well balanced. Though it'd have...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

The story was fine. Lots of his ideas are good. He has no clear sense of balance. Does that make him crappy? It makes him crappy at balancing, yes. Part of the problem is he has the same ideas many people here have. "Players dont need all this magic stuff, its ridiculous. No magic shops, thats...

Andy Collins: "Most Magic Items in D&D Are Awful"

I'm suggesting that not every DM is some "Master of Balance" and that they ignore the fact that CR's assume these things willy nilly, and continue throwing the same challenges at their party whether the level 12 barbarian has a Cloak of Resistance +5 or 23 Murlynd's Spoons. Thats perfectly...
