    Playground Adventure Environments

The distinction I was imagining -- again, this is just spitballing, to see if there is some there there -- was sort of focused on the platonic ideal of the player motivated sandbox combined with player setting input, versus a map with a bunch of points of interest but still player generated...

If it is linear, it isn't any of these things.

    Morality of mind control…

I tend to think of "evil" in terms of harm caused. With mind control, there are a few aspects that we can use to measure that. First, is the victim aware that they are being controlled but have no capacity to do otherwise? That is traumatic and harmful and therefore evil. Even if the victim is...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I really like Prestige classes as a concept -- and dome were even well implemented. The only reason I did not suggest them for my theoretical 6E is because I really think talent trees is the way to go. I suppose you could have "Prestige talents" that unlocked in a similar way though.

I think Skyrim is closer to a theme park, since most of those experiences are so simple or linear.

One other 6E demand: make the default campaign length years instead of months again, and no longer have "campaign length" adventures as the main adventure support.

Homebrew What makes for a perfect base hub for adventures?

I would be very careful about making extreme changes to home base without explicit player buy in. A home base is less a part of the GM's world than it is an extension of the PCs themselves.

What is a West Marches game?

You could flavor the IC discord chat as CRIMR, where criminals go to trade secrets and swipe right on partners for their next heist!

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Sure, as long as the character is in as much peril as usual. The thing is, lots of players don't want their character getting killed while they are not at the game, so their character is handwaved to be "watching the horses" or whatever. And last I check, watching the horses was not a challenge.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

I think whether the Culture is dystopian is dependent on how you feel about the importance of humanity being the master of its own destiny. I never got the impression that it was supposed to feel dystopian, or that the individual story protagonists were supposed to be sticking it to the man.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

I think has a lot to do with the fact that for 5E at least as presented in official adventures, there is no real difference between an adventure and a campaign, and the player is not expected to have more than one character during the campaign (PC death notwithstanding). People do seem allergic...

Fair enough. So what was your point then?

Again, this thread is about a theoretical 6E. It seems like a weird place for you to be decrying people suggesting changes to D&D.

What is a West Marches game?

In comics, villains tend to be more proactive. it would be fun to play like the Flash Rogues in a supers west marches game, trying to plan heists and stuff while avoiding the supers.

You responded to me very specifically asking what kind of *-punk Star Wars was, not broadly what genre Star Wars was.

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

How a hypothetical 6E would deal with XP and leveling is another interesting question. Milestones definitely work better for the style of adventures that WotC has produced for 5E, while counting XP from challenges is better for sandboxes and other non-linear styles of play. 6E would need to...

"Space Opera" doesn't really say anything about its outlook, though. Star Wars is Space Opera, but so it The Culture series.

What is a West Marches game?

I feel like you could use this format (with a few tweaks) for an ongoing open table superhero game. EDIT: Now that I type that, i think it might work better from a playing villains perspective.
