Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

Right. The industry standard seems to be around $65 or more. So, yeah, $80 is ahead, but it is still less than what existing customers would have paid for the same material.

That's interesting. Is there a free preview or quickstart for Cosmere?

Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

WotC does not set the industry standard prices. They are a complete outlier because they produce a volume an order of magnitude beyond anyone else in the industry.

I think it is important to remember that comparisons to inflation only tell part of the story. In this case, I bet tarriffs have a lot to do with it.

Sure, if your goal is to be as casual and generic a game as possible. Which WotC does, of course. But generally I think designers should design the game they want to play, and let the audience find that game. Art made for the lowest common denominator, whatever the medium, is usually shallow and...

I find it very strange that you don't see how system affects approach to the game and actual gameplay beyond "feels." But I don't want to belabor or argue about it. That's the way you see it. Fair enough.

Thanks for the clarification. That is not a way I would have interpreted "gaslighting" without it.

    What do you mean "gaslighting"?

Which other publishers? Paizo is selling rulebooks for $65, which appears to be the same price for the newest Kobold Press stuff. Monte Cook Games stuff is even more. Even the FR books from WotC are $60. $50 is not the industry standard.

D&D General New Deborah Ann Woll live play!

YAY! I love her GMing and the weird D&D meets Escape Room vibe sounds really great. I still wish she would run stuff besides D&D though. Her style and story preferences would work so much better with Fate Accelerated or some other narrative focus games.

Unlike most board games or Magic, you can't strip out the context of various editions of D&D (or other RPGs) and get to a core mathematical experience. That is because RPGs transcend the math they are based on (when they can be said to be "based" on any math at all; charitably, RPG design is...

This is, I think, because people are lazy and bad and can't be bothered to put 3 minutes work in to understanding the rules or their character while simultaneously expecting the GM to slave over every detail for hours in order to ensure the pinnacle Mercerian experience.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

Of the settings, Eberron has the most potential to be punk. I run it a lot like a cyberpunk game, actually. It has emergent tech disrupting society, megacorporations monopolizing that tech, and the protagonists are usually a motley crew of ne'er do wells getting on the wrong side of those...

    D&D General 6E But A + Thread

Just to be clear, I did not make the claim that 12 year olds are WotC's target market -- and I don't think it is. I think that may be where they want to hook them, but their actual target market appears to be GenZ (late teens and early 20s) because that is where the disposal income is before you...

Paizo Ends Pathfinder Adventure Path Softcovers, Switching to Quarterly Model

Maybe I was not clear: because of the massive amount of money that they raised, they are able to sell these books for lower than the market standard because they already know their costs have been recouped.

D&D General D&D is now Steampunk (poll)

D&D is pretty much its own genre and its own artistic style/vibe at this point. And that isn't a dig. It is cool that it has an identity.

The numbers being too high. 5E solved that. The d20 no longer gets buried by modifiers, even at high level.
