D&D 5E (2014) Do all the rules need to be released at once?

You have to be able to play the game while you're waiting for the next product to come out. So you need sufficient game at first release. That's rules for PCs, rules to run the game, rules for monsters/etc, preferably an adventure (or 2!) and enough advancement rules to get you to the next...

    Goblins of Eberron

On tweaking my monster selection - I had some level 13 minions and some level 9 skirmishers. The level 13 minions did some freaky damage with the +10 - it was 21 points on a hit. But the level 9 skirmishers got caught in the AoE, which essentially bloodied them on a hit, so the sorcerer used an...

    Goblins of Eberron

I do check that. I've also found that if you customize a monster and push it up a level then back down a level it's damage changes. I haven't checked extensively, but the new damage seems to be in line with the MM3 damage. I like the dmg42 table tho - I'll be looking at those for next time. PS

    Goblins of Eberron

Had another session of my GoE game yesterday. As we work into Paragon tier I'm experimenting with speeding up combat. I did the half hp and +10 damage house rule. Made combat a lot quicker - but that's because essentially no monster could stand up to the Elementalist Dragonborn's breath-action...

What kind of problems am I likely to see?

It looks like you're going to have to worry about underpowered weakness. He's not likely to be good at much besides sneaking around. He'll have a few tricks, but nothing amazing. It's not like he's picked Dervish as one of his classes. Scout adds a little skirmish damage, but it's not that...

How medieval are your medieval(-ish) fantasy games?

It's easy to make a world where everything in your list follows its own unique pattern without having that world be medieval. I game in Eberron - very internally consistent, the cultures and the magic/tech and the economy all fall together in an interesting and plausible way - but the mindset if...

Suggestions on reworking a Dragon encounter.

Yeah, I was thinking no changes to stats at all. If it was already a challenging encounter it should still be. But in 3e you have to evaluate everything for the specific group. PS

I suspect you're right about the heavy lifting part. I guess it depends on whether you think the stat blocks or the adventure story is the heavy lifting part. I'm thinking I derailed this thread plenty by now tho . . . PS

Pathfinder 1E Am i going to screw up my sorcerer?

I'm pretty sure 3.0 Haste was too good for any level of spell. It would almost certainly be the first spell you took at any level - even 9th. Only Time Stop compares. PS

Well, I'm thinking you would just reskin the monsters. Frex, my write up of my players' raid on a hobgoblin lair would look like this. "The hobgoblin prince (level 7 elite soldier) and his wizard adviser (level 6 artillery) are accompanied by 2 ogres (level 6 brutes) and 6 goblin thieves (level...

Suggestions on reworking a Dragon encounter.

What if you used exactly the same stats but changed the size? That really only changes the number of PCs that can fit around the creature, which was probably not a limiting factor anyway. PS

IMX, almost perfectly. To my mind the question (which is just idle speculation because I'm not making and selling adventures) is would consumers be willing to buy an adventure and then populate it themselves. PS

When I plan out my adventures I typically design my fights as "I need a couple 9th level artillery, three 10th level skirmishers, and an elite 11th level brute" then I go comb the Adventure Tool for those stats. I wonder if actual products designed that way would fly. PS

How medieval are your medieval(-ish) fantasy games?

I think the medieval mindset and society is sufficiently different from our own that a faithful reproduction would be endlessly jarring. And given the power level of even moderate level D&D PCs and the modern ideas of every player I've ever had, your adventuring party will soon go about removing...

    Storminator's bittersweet session

we got our May session in at the end of April, which was short and sweet and crunchy. Combat started with PCs Stunned (save ends). Combat ended with villains fleeing across the landscape. This weekend we go again! PS

D&D 4E Campaign brainstorming 4e point of light setting

Fallcrest can be a good trading spot without actually exporting anything. It sits on the bridge on the Kings road, and the falls on the Nentir - so it can charge tolls for the bridge and hire out porters (elevators?) for the falls. It's also the natural spot to go to switch between road and...
