I saw the Kaladrax yesterday at Reaper - whoa. Fan-freakin-tastic. PS

I ran my first Epic session last Sunday

Sweet. I like how everything is tied to the PC so there's no irrelevant parts. And epic level PCs that fall from the sky? Perfect. My game is just nudging into Paragon. PS

    Making firearms more important

In movies covering fire is used when both sides are trading shots from behind cover. Then one guy yells "cover me!" and runs for a better position, while his friend lays down the covering fire. So you want there to be an advantage to the guy moving into the open while people are shooting at him...

Kobold Paladin of Bahamut - Pick+Shield vs Heavy Pick

I think I would lean to the heavy pick. A paladin want to get attacked, so making your AC too high can discourage attacks against you (if paladin AC > friend AC +2). Paladins tend to have boatload of surges and a lot of hp, and can therefore take the pain. And as ND says, your damage will...

    Racism in your game?

My players play hobgoblins, goblins, and bugbears (and now a kobold). They are a racist bunch. They hate all those humans and poncy elves. Of course they're also cannibals, so maybe they're atypical . . . PS

Boston Game Day - May The Fourth Be With You (PLAYER SIGN-UPS)

Piratecat, you put A loveable scoundrel in the wrong AM game. PS

How to run a Super Hero RPG?

Albino Nazi gorillas in jet packs? Mad scientists with giant unfinished robots? Splendid Perfection Man? OK, vaguely might not apply. That game is pure genius tho. PS

    MurderHobos

Like you, this was our SOP for my first decade of gaming. And I too would have used MurderHobos had I thought of it. I don't have any desire to go back to those games, but that was how we rolled. PS

Boston Game Day - May The Fourth Be With You (PLAYER SIGN-UPS)

Put me in Seonaid's game for the morning, and Steam Wars in the afternoon. W00t! PS

    Gamehackery: The Facebook Effect

Almost all my group is on facebook, but we don't plan game days thru it. We do email for all the group (I think about half of those get their email thru their phones) save one, and I call him. There is one guy that I sometimes ping on facebook when he's ignoring his emails. PS

    Good Fluff Books?

Did you not list the Plane Above and Plane Below books because you already have them? Those are the best IMO. PS

I feel silly. I'm letting physics get in the way of fun.

Don't use electricity. Use lightning. :D PS

Nominate the third inductee into the RPG Hall of Fame!

Steve Jackson was the first name to pop to mind. Maybe that's because I played Melee (and its follow on In the Labyrinth) before D&D. PS

    Experience Point: Pacing, Pacing, Pacing

I'm pretty obsessed with the pacing of both my RPGs and my work meetings. The thing I hate most in RPGs is when all the players stare at each other and think "what do we do next?" Things I do to get me out of that 1) remind the players of everything their PCs know. I don't wait to see how good...

How many people subscribe to D&D stuff?

Meh. My table has six subscriptions - which is one more than last year. That's 20% growth. And I don't even read the articles. :D PS

    Teleport Idea

One of my favorite game sessions ever we (at ~18th level) Buff-Scry-Teleported in on the BBEG's henchmen (all around 18th level) and wrecked them. Since our buffs were still up, we teleported into his magic minion factory. Where the BBEG was waiting for us, cast Time Stop, buffed himself, fought...

    running multiple quest lines simultaneously

It's also important to wrap up quests. Sometimes the PCs have completed them, sometimes the villain has succeeded, sometimes it's something else. But just as you keep opening new adventures, you keep closing old ones. And sometimes it necks down to just one or two plots. Frex, if a giant war...

Parsantium City Sourcebook - now on sale!

I'd recommend looking at Sharn: City of Towers, and in particular the "First Impressions" entry in each district. I read those to my players every time they enter a district, even if it's for the 100th time. It's great to set the atmosphere for the scene. It helps that it's only a sentence or...

"A World Worth Saving": Chris Perkins on NPCs and GMing style

I don't know about that. We played Hobgoblintown (as I will now refer to it forever) when I was a teen. There's a definite remorseless logic to it, and it's pretty easy to figure out. The NPCs are out to get you. The monsters are out to get you. The traps are out to get you. The treasure might...
