D&D 5E (2014) How would you wish WOTC to do Dark Sun

I think Dark Sun is a lot more interesting if the Sorcerer Kings are still around. The metaplot killed off most of them, so I think either set the game after Kalak's death, or contrive a new plot element to bring the Sorcerer Kings back to life. I mean, supposedly they have ruled for thousands...

Mana, Shamans, and the Cultural Misappropriation behind Fantasy Terms

I would just like to point out in case it wasn't already that the person who made the video is Andrew Henry who is a PHD candidate in early Christianty at Boston U. sauce He runs a great channel, very informative and scholarly.

News Digest for the Week of July 17

It's strange. I go through these periodic obsessions with things. One month it will be Dark Sun. Another it's Mage: The Ascension. Just a couple of days ago somehow I got bit by a Warhammer 40k bug, and here is a new edition of the rules. Maybe I will finally dig out and paint my Tau figures...

D&D 5E (2014) Thief Rogue throwing Ball Bearings everywhere

New Magic Item: Boots of the Hippo These magical boots activate automatically whenever the wearer steps within an area containing ball bearings, marbles, or other small spheroids. These boots then come to life, transforming into a colorful, animated hippo head which frantically slurps up all of...

D&D General Problematic issues with TSR era D&D from a modern lens

I would personally advocate for using the more natural-sounding conjugations. Nonbinary folks are already fighting an uphill battle getting people to use they instead of he or she, and getting people to use funny-sounding conjugations like "they is" and "they was" might be a bridge too far. The...

D&D General Why can Giant Eagles, Giant Elk, and Giant Owls speak?

The giant animals in Princess Mononoke were Kami, which is often translated into English as being a spirit or a god or deity, but in truth there is no direct translation. It's a very broad term that covers pretty much everything from deities to rocks and trees. There is a spiritual nature to...

D&D 5E (2014) Adding Psychic Glamour (Kalashtar question)

These skills are more about understanding the human mind, which Kalashtar have intimate experience with. Insight is probably the most apropos, because it is the skill of understanding emotion and human behavior. (not just "detect lies"... I would challenge DM's when giving results to Insight...

Thor and Hercules? One is a thunder god and the other is the son of a thunder god. How do you like them apples? ;)

WotC Older D&D Books on DMs Guild Now Have A Disclaimer

The entire reason that people believe that it was frivolous was because of a massive... disinformation campaign? Propaganda campaign? That painted her as an example of this new, swelling trend of frivolous lawsuits. If memory serves, it was shortly after that when people started taking advantage...

WotC New WotC Statement on Orion Black

Orion's account paints a fairly grim picture of corporate culture at WOTC, hence their flippant response. Here is the previous thread about it: https://www.enworld.org/threads/orion-black-no-longer-a-d-d-designer-updated.673067/

WotC New WotC Statement on Orion Black

Unless I am somehow misreading who you are referring to, Orion is nonbinary and uses they/them pronouns.

D&D General How long does a body take to decompose in a bag of holding? (Asking for a friend...)

If time doesn't pass, then you could now have entire PC's jumping into the bag of holding. It's hard to suffocate if time is frozen. I have seen warforged players do this, though.

D&D General D&D Settings with No Problematic Areas?

One nice thing about these settings is that they give players an opportunity to learn about these cultures that they might not get otherwise. In the case of a setting like Al-Qadim, this might be one of the few positive portrayals of the middle east (even if it is put into a fantasy context)...

    D&D 5E (2014) Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

Agreed. It's really not about whether some piece of media is making people racist. What makes racism flourish -I think- is the act of refusing to learn, refusing to listen, refusing to empathize.

    D&D 5E (2014) Orion Black No Longer a D&D Designer [UPDATED!]

It's everywhere. But ultimately I think the power lies with Wizards, and it seems like they have a real problem having diverse voices in their good ol' boys club. I think time will tell if they can walk the walk. When it comes to minorities in the workplace, getting them in the door is only...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

Allrighty then. But Crawford didn't say "Lycanthropy is an exception." He only spoke about the werewolf creature specifically, but not the curse of lycanthropy itself. If we take the idea that 5e does not impose alignment mandates as gospel, then lycanthropy... doesn't... work like that? I am...

    D&D 5E (2014) WotC's Jeremy Crawford Talks D&D Alignment Changes

That was a point I wasn't clear on. So thanks for that. But at the same time, how can D&D have a rule like that and still maintain that there are no alignment mandates in D&D? If lycanthropy changes the alignment of the person who contracts it, that's an alignment mandate. If it doesn't...
