    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn Moon Druid

I see where you are going with this. Does the new form have the internal combustion organs to generate the breath. I skimmed the very next line in the PHB "However, you can’t use any of your special senses, such as darkvision, unless your new form also has that sense." So, I retract my...

    D&D 5E (2014) Holidays in your world

I have not really incorporated holidays into may campaign world. They exist, but they haven't driven the campaign, so they seldom come up. They are mostly used as a reason for certain events in the game, but they have never been anything that the players or characters would track. Any...

    D&D 5E (2014) Dragonborn Moon Druid

RAW PHB, "You retain the benefit of any features from your class, race, or other source and can use them if the new form is physically capable of doing so" So, you can use your breath weapon provided that the creature has a mouth. [I do not think any breath weapon is projected any other way]

    D&D 5E (2014) Spell delivery via familiar

I think you are dead on, or at least, we are playing in the exact same way. How a wizard intents to use his familiar to cast spells is part of the consideration in choosing a familiar. A wizard with a repertoire of range spells, probably is not going to use his familiar to cast spells often...

Give me some ideas for creating a relic

Sound like the Saint's Mace or Mace of St Cuthbert would be a good model. I would make it a +5 blade. No disruption. The Searing Light spellcast feature makes sense given the name and specialized foe -- shadow and undead. You might reduce the usage instead of "at will" and I would tie the...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

My problem with the comeliness score is the subjective nature of beauty or attractiveness. I list both beauty and attractiveness separately because, though related, they are separate. As cited in many post above in this thread, there are numerous ways in which attractiveness or beauty can be...

Welcome aboard. Starter Set is a good place to start.

D&D 5E (2014) Musing on Levels and Campaign Pacing.

Splitting the party! Did you expect them to do that and do you think that is why it was so long (not to mention the death of one of the PCs)?

D&D 5E (2014) Musing on Levels and Campaign Pacing.

I use a blend of XP, milestone, and storytelling to manage to campaign design and progression. I also strive for four hour long sessions. With usually three session to finish a plot element. That all said, I like the structure found in the DM's guide when it comes to determining levels of...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

Everytime I open the rule books, it feels like I discover something new. The DM's guide has an optional rule called loyalty that sort of fit the group charisma check. The loyalty score, or loyalty to the party, is based on the highest charisma score in the group. The loyalty is adjusted by...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

I like this description of, for lack of a better word, relative charisma, which accounts for why a low charisma character would be part of a group with effective group dynamics. Sure, the guy is a jerk to everyone else, but he is a different person those his close compatriots, a very select...

D&D 5E (2014) What rules from previous editions do you keep forgetting aren't in 5E?

Same here on flanking. But it is the optional rules in the back.

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

Very much agree. I let the players imagine their character any way they want. Its their character, and the attractiveness trait does not come into play in the game. When a player tells me her character is pretty - good. When a players tell me her character is <checks charisma score, sees an 14>...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

I agree. This instance was not so much a group check as much as it was sympathetic effects. For some reason, the image of a group charisma check conjures up a band of four bards performing. Three of the four bards perform well, but the fourth is not as skilled and causes the band to fail its...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

I find it really interesting when players account for their charisma score in unusual ways. The "Attractive Geek" - the sorceress who is attractive not because of physical beauty or revealing clothes but because she is smart and kind. The "father figure" - the cleric who is attractive...

    D&D 5E (2014) The Misrepresentation of Charisma

Regarding splitting the nuances of Charisma, the flip side of creating a "comeliness" score is the creation of a "presence" score. I though the old Birthright campaign setting attempted to address the presence of the player characters through their "Regency Points", but I think it reflects more...
