D&D 5E (2014) Spell Cards for D&D 5E using Magic Set Editor (MSE)

o.k. The Spell level DragonScale will change when you change the spell level on the text field. The change in the spell level text field changes both fields. The same is true for the spell school -- the dragon orb will change when you change the spell school text.

Thanks for the catch. I'll troubleshoot it now.

    Snow Goon

Dausuul, I like the adjustments. I especially like the use of mutation and growth instead of healing, as the snow goons did not so much heal as change. The extra hit dice functions a little like healing, but it does not negate damage it had already received. I was a little concerned about two...

    Snow Goon

Tormyr, the animated armor was my start point. But much about the snow goon was different that I have to deviate much from the start point. The little stick arms did not seem to equate to the strength that the animated suit of armor had. I haven't quite figured out how to make the monster a...

    Snow Goon

I'm working on a monster for a holiday themed adventure. It is inspired by Bill Watterson's Snow Goon from the Calvin and Hobbes comic strip. Intent is a snowman type construct working as a pack creature. I felt that it would be too powerful for a monster to create more monsters like the...

D&D 5E (2014) What is the "role" in roleplaying

I would think that the original Gygax characterization of roleplaying being a function or responsibility in a playing group is most accurate, but I would never be adamant about that. My own gaming group does very little "personality" role playing, the class and race of their character being the...

[Sensitive question] Is there cultural appropriation in gaming?

I second the research. The knowledge and understanding of a culture is crucial. The misrepresenting a culture has two aspects. It is a fault of those who poorly "appropriate" a culture, and it is also a fault of those who misrepresents those cultures as their misguided "champion." And the...

[Sensitive question] Is there cultural appropriation in gaming?

It is probably impossible to play any RPG without some sort of cultural appropriation. Many of the monsters are a collection of creatures from a variety of cultures. These fantasy games have created their own culture but have borrowed heavily from world folklore and pantheon. My dragons tend...

Who plays multiple Sword and Sorcery RPGs?

Dannyalcatraz, I see you listed a whole slew of them. Have you played in long running campaigns in multiple systems at the same time? What drew you to trying out the other games over your favorite (don't worry, I won't ask which is your favorite)?

D&D 5E (2014) The Role of Dragons in Your Game

In my campaign, Dragons are the apex monster. Rare and feared. They are the ultimate utility villain as they can be destroyers, ravagers, hoarders, and manipulators. The good dragons are the counterbalance. However, as the characters are heroes, their encounters with dragons are inevitable...

D&D 5E (2014) Killing is bad: how to establish morality

One of the aspects that seems to be missing from this topic is the maturity of the players and how they deal with morality. I often have very young players. Moral challenges and moral ambiguity are difficult concepts and I avoid presenting those elements in the game at their early age. The...

Who plays multiple Sword and Sorcery RPGs?

I've played D&D since the earliest editions. I've seen numerous other fantasy/Sword and sorcery RPGs come and go. I do not consider myself an elitist or D&D snob, but I've never gotten into the other systems. Sure, I have dabbled in the Gamma World and Paranoia games -- they were a nice...

    D&D 5E (2014) 2016 5th edition D&D Dungeon Master Survey

Hardest part of the survey was the parsing out of specific preparation. Most times, these parsed events are interrelated and they are conceived and developed at the same time. Although, one of the misrepresentation of workload involves some of my favorite tools. They save me tons of time...

Does Your Group Allow Homebrew or 3PP Material for D&D Games?

We stick with the official WoTC materials, but that isn't because the 3rd party materials are not any good. Instead, it is more a function of my group still exploring the possibilities the base materials provide. I only recently got them to try new character classes and races recently...

D&D General Monster and NPC DataCard Template

Unfortunately, I am unaware of any such feature in the Magic Set Editor. This is why I tend to keep MSE card styles that use similar data compatible.

D&D 5E (2014) Physical and/or Tactile Gaming Aids, Tips, and Tricks

Here is a style template for Monster and NPC Data Cards. They will print to about a 5x8 card. You will have to use Magic Set Editor to use the template. They are also compatible with the Initiative Tents, so you can have matching cards for the monsters or NPCs.

If you have Magic Set Editor, I have a template style of Monster and NPC Data Cards. These will print out to about 5x8.
