    Maybe people get stuck on the spikes when you try to drag them through it at top speed, so either you can let go and keep running or stop. Horseback/Monkback cleric and spirit guardians, though, that's something else. Doesn't even have to give up punching; move and dash is still 80+feet.

    I liked the old Ritual Caster letting you use a spellbook for Rituals. It is useful to everyone, even a Wizard (since they'd be able to add druid and cleric rituals to their spellbook). It also lets groups without a spellcaster use important rituals. Seems like basic magic in a magical world to me.

    In theory, losing your action slows you if all you want to do is move; you can't use your dash action. If someone who's speed was halved uses the dash action, they're back to normal speed. So, maybe they figured if you move while stunned it's because you're stumbling as fast as you can.
