Do you TTRPG but don't D&D?

Let's see...I play or have played in the last three years... Legend of Al-Shard (Japanese TTRPG) Mutants & Masterminds Star Trek (LUG/ICON System) Traveller (Classic) When Suddenly!... (Origin Game I Designed) Oh and a little modified D&D 3.5 just for giggles ;) I tend to play D&D only...

Now that 4e is out, are you into it or sticking with a prior edition?

If D&D is in my future it will most certainly be run with my 3.0-3.5, house rules added of course. The more I read my 4E books the less 'in the mood' for D&D I get. For now I'm focused on Classic Traveller, Faery's Tale and some experimental game ideas. Most notably I'd love to revisit my...

    Why are there Classes?

I would agree with the latter part of this statement. After all, there are 2 non-random methods for character attribute generation in the PH and only one for rolling dice. Compare that to earlier versions.

    Why are there Classes?

Exactly what I was thinking. As opposed to all those who point out the sacred cow status of classes when, as noted, clearly many sacred cows were sacrified to bring up this version. It simply struck me as odd to design what feels like a 'build from parts' system and then almost arbitrarily fit...

    Why are there Classes?

I've purchased the 4E Core Books and after reading through character creation several times I'm faced with the nagging question... Why are there Classes in 4E? Its a question of design theory I suppose. If everyone hits based on half their level and each class chooses powers and abilities at...

Now that 4e is upon us, what will you do?

I'll do what I do best... Star Trek (Last Unicorn Games ICON System), Star Wars (West End Games D6), Mutants & Masterminds or some bizarre mix-n-match homebrew. Been jonesin' to try a new campaign of Faerie's Tale, my homemade Galaxy Quest RPG, a modified Metamorphosis Alpha idea I have or...

D&D 4E Thoughts on 4E after Nine Sessions

I like when my players work together because they want to or have a cool idea not because they have to. But then, I guess you can only do what the designers have programmed in. Still, it would have been nice to see more options for Solo play like in some of the other MMORPGS. ;) AD

    One Hit Wonders

One-shots, pick up games, pilots...one time and one time only adventures that rocked your players socks and then went the way of the Dodo. No campaign came of it but you all still speak of that one time when you ran a kicking game of...something. So tell us about your One Hit Wonder! Could if...

    Rotating DMs

I've experienced this concept often but not in a very long time. Back in the day, the group I gamed with had similar interests and influences and having mutliple GMs for a single campaign worked great and kept a concise flavor and atmosphere throughout. Nowadays this seems much more difficult...

    Which Edition?

As I mentioned on another humor-oriented thread I may well hold off playing D&D again until they reach the edition that I feel will be perfect for me group and I... D&D EDITION PI! AD

    Which Edition?

Why, they're so useful to me I'd pay double what I'm paying now. AD

    Which Edition?

When/if I ever run D&D again, it will likely be a Home ruled 3.0-3.5. To me that's the best all around version of the system when it comes to ease-of-use meets completeness. I'm less of a Fantasy fan then I am a fan of SciFi and Superheroes and my fantasy ideas these days are more in line with...

What have you done to Drow in your world?

Unseelie...not necessarily evil The Elves of My Campaign World are the end result of Faerie nobles trapped on this plane and adapted to living here. The Drow are the evolution of Dark Sidhe who tricked their way into being included in the explorations of the Mortal Realms. In addition, it was a...

    Nuts & Volts

Cool idea, I'll start digging through the web. I'm really jazzed to run an all robot game - either destroy-all-humans or exploring the "Why are we here? Who built us and why?" angle. AD

    Nuts & Volts

Does anyone have or know where I can get ahold of this little gem of an RPG? Printed in White Wolf Magazine #10, it is supposedly an adaption of the never printed robot action adventure game Proton Fire, announced in an issue of Dragon Magazine (remember Dragon Magazine...in print...with...

The most fun character you have ever played/seen

My most funnest of characters... As someone who usually GMs and has been lucky enough to have some very creative and dedicated players, I would be hard pressed to name one over another, though a few stand out in my mind. Instead, I'll mention one of those rarest of beasts, a favorite that I...

    Worst role-playing experience?

The Game That Shall Not Be Named! There was this one campaign...I was merely an observer and not a participant but what I witnessed left scars that I am still working to heal. Many of the players have running in-jokes to this day where they shudder at the campaign's mention and say that the...

    Later...At the Hall of Justice!

"Base of Operations" got me wondering...do the PCs in your campaign(s) have a headquarters from which to launch their expeditions and recover from them, etc? Most of my campaigns are SciFi so the players have their ship, the ultimate combination mobile home/command base from which to operate...

Did Anybody Ever Play "Space Opera?"

Cosmic Rhapsody and Ragnarok in G Minor We played a lot of Space Opera in the early to mid eighties - a lot of Space Opera. The background was bitten from a dozen classic SF books and films, the system was complex to the point of ridiculousness and every drawback mentioned here is true tenfold...
