Different philosophies concerning Rules Heavy and Rule Light RPGs.

It might help your opinion on the subject if you take a look at the minimalist systems that are out there. It will help to inform your opinion, and create a common ground where to discuss. As it is, it's just that- an opinion thrown out there that no one can help discuss and isn't really of any...

Melsonian Moving from Crowdfunding to Pre-Orders

Melsonian Arts Council (creators of Troika and Longshot City - two that I love, and well known for their gonzo approach to settings) has announced in a blog post they are moving off of crowdfunding platforms and instead using a pre-order system on their website. They go into their reasoning, and...

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

Matthew Stover is a great writer. And he brings so much to the table. I wish he'd been in on the script writing process.

What Game Publishers Are Saying About The Tariffs

This is (one of) the really annoying thing(s) about BackerKit which makes me dislike that it's taking off as a crowdfunding platform. So much spam. So little ability to communicate with the creators. So little standardization in delivery date communication. And so on...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

I didn't say literally anyone here is doing that, did I? I meant "the general public" when they say GURPS is crunchy in any conversation. Or Rolemaster is crunchy. Without context that you can dial it down. I thought that would be obvious as that was the context of the conversation. But I guess...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

That's the problem with a lot of these X is crunchy arguments. People see dials and say that they're integral parts. My play with GURPS went with a much lighter in play feel, because we didn't care about any of that.

There's A New Edition Of The Cypher System Coming

Yeah, I played GURPS (hurts me to put the -ed, but I haven't played in over a decade), but I still buy it because its well researched and great for use elsewhere. One book I recommend to anyone who runs horror/suspense (and not just because I was one of the advance readers and know the author)...

It's not sunk cost! All those books are very much worth it! At least, that's what I tell myself...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

Pelgrane Press is also making a Cozy Mystery type of game in ME with the numbers filed off. I see it still listed here - See Page XX – December 2024 But the official page is gone. I wonder if Tolkien Estate got to them?

What Makes A Successful Superhero CAMPAIGN

So, taking the allegory of the racial strife that the mutant strife puts a thin veneer on... Certain mutants cannot be denied. Mystique. Nightcrawler. Blink. Strong Guy. Etc, etc. Others can 'pass'. Those are only known by their identification and their association. It's for this reason, that...

What Lost, Abandoned or Short Lived TTRPG would you like to see get a re-issue and new support?

I think the skills are taken care of by the MOS packages - you don't really have to go through them and they give the different characters a chance to shine. Paired with Double Tap, you get a lot of unique situations because of them and a lot of opportunity to lean into the second part... ...

TTRPG Genres You Just Can't Get Into -and- Tell Me Why I'm Wrong About X Genre I Don't Like

It is there. However, what @Ruin Explorer was saying is that they are the scapegoats, even though they're there. And the official fiction supports that statement. They're aren't good, but they are not the only evil or even the ultimate one.

What Lost, Abandoned or Short Lived TTRPG would you like to see get a re-issue and new support?

That still doesn't say what doesn't work. If you're not interested in discussing, that's fine... but I was just wondering. I've played several Gumshoe games, and it works splendidly, IMO. This is just the first time I've heard Gumshoe referred to as a 'bad system'.

It does work for some. What are you saying doesn't work?

    Spoilers Superman Spoiler Thread

There's an excellent Year One comic ongoing currently. It's only on issue 4, so pretty easy to catch up.

Spoilers Star Wars: Andor season 2

Yeah, I disagree on that part- especially given the results of the raid. If he'd planned to go where he told the rebellion he was going, he would have been caught. The rebellion at that point was a sieve.

He was right about the Rebellion and their hypocrisy.

Spoilers Star Wars: Andor season 2

I think that was important because it established that the rebellion was not a well organized and put together thing all over, which would contrast with both (a) Luthen's operation and that time, and (b) the rebellion later. These things helped to show that the Rebellion was also being...

What Lost, Abandoned or Short Lived TTRPG would you like to see get a re-issue and new support?

There was a good AP on RPPR about Lancer - made me more interested in running it than the first read of the rules did.
