The Mighty TBD vs Arden Vul

Very cool! I'm always tempted to buy this when it goes on sale, but know there is just no hope this will ever hit the table.

Pineapple Express: Someone Is Wrong on the Internet?

Is that poking fun of someone in particular? Because straight from Greg Gillespie's rulebook 😄 :

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

I hear that. As much as I dislike 5E, it's still the game I run when playing with younger kids or people new to the hobby. Because of that, 5E has seen way more play than any of my OSR systems. Like 10 to 1. Rules Cyclopedia is one my most treasured books, but there's enough small, personal...

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

I think with most things, it really depends on the quality of the textbook. A good chunk of my professors made us buy their material and for the most part I didn't mind. Having the perfect book the instructor knew inside out to study for your exam did make it easier. Now, the ones who sold us...

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

There are so many great OSR games to play at the moment! I honestly haven't found "the perfect one" yet, so kind of just rotate them to match whatever system the module I'm running is based on. For games that I actually write my own adventures for, that would be Shadowdark for simple crawls and...

    OSR Dragonslayer RPG truly delivers.

Just wanted to jump back in here to say the Dragonslayer hardback is now listed at $45 on Drive-Thru. If I'm remembering right, that's about half the price of what was previously offered. Honestly, that was my only criticism of the game, so hoping it stays affordable from now on.

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimizing for more grit…

Now that the hardcovers are finally reasonable priced on DriveThru, I say do it!

    D&D 5E (2014) Optimizing for more grit…

I see Greg retooled the adventure specifically for 5E, so my advice would be to run it as is and see if the rules actually need to be tweaked. If it's already designed to run "gritty" wouldn't want to double down on it. Levels 1-3 are generally deadly enough anyways, so wouldn't hurt!

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

My group was the same way. We worked out a system where I could change mechanical aspects of combat mid fight in exchange for more XP. This was always telegraphed like, "You strike for 10, but doesn't seem to have much impact. The orc grinning in front of you must be a leader of some kind." That...

D&D General 5e D&D to OSR pipeline or circle?

Off the top of my head: 1) Adventure modules took way too much of my time to make work. 2) System designed to make players feel powerful and unstoppable; I like stories where the protagonists succeed despite the odd against them. 3) Attribute bonuses are too impactful. They should not influence...

Best Horror Movies of All Time

Great list! This is also my favorite horror movie. Heck, maybe even my favorite movie. If you haven't seen it, this 5 hour deep dive into the film is amazing!

    Aphantasia and Role Playing Games

I can't speak for everyone, but for me at least, I think I've gotten better? Since the time I started my own thread on the subject, I've been trying really hard to "exercise" my "image muscles" to better play Dungeon World with my friends and now I'm at the point where I can at least visualize a...

Savage Worlds: Realms of Cthulhu experience?

Lucky! How did it go? Did you finish? That is certainly is on my "bucket list". I haven't picked this one up yet. Any idea if it's worth while?

Savage Worlds: Realms of Cthulhu experience?

Realms of Cthulhu is a great product that not only has a ton of setting info and crunch, but also acts as a tool bag filled with adjustable mechanics to dial in the exact type of game you want to play. It is certainly worthwhile to pick up. It's been a very long while, but I recall running a...

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

That's a really good point. I'm seeing a version of the comic where she says she "loves seals" and then the sea lion pops up to pester her about her hate for sea lions. 😄

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

A hard "no"? I wasn't expecting someone to be so squarely in defense of the lady's actions, even going so far in saying she was validated! Understand the sea lion's behavior is bad, but if the topic expressed wasn't one of bigotry (since sea lions in this world are sentient) or there was a...

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

Also, understand the gist of the original sea lion comic, but wish the author used something trivial for the topic, like not liking syrup on pancakes or something. As is, what the lady said was a bit rude and kind of deserves to be called out, right? :sneaky:

    Bad Faith and Sealioning

That makes sense to me since it's a basically a verbal DoS attack. If that's what's being scrutinized, then I'm all for it. And understand the example was kind of silly, but wanted to use something "light" as an example rather than a controversial topic where these things tend to happen.
