D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

Honestly, you make a good point. I admit to some prejudice on my part. Ever since I read about the DDB team who was responsible for making sure rules fit with the digital platform, I've been viewing some of the wonky rule changes through that lens.

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

This is how I'm viewing it working in a VTT... I select my target, and click the button for "Command", then a sub-menu comes up with the preset word to select from. A message appears "(Target) has been Commanded to Jump", and the DM can interpret that however they'd like. The player doesn't...

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

Ahhh...I didn't catch the bit about targets not having to understand the language. From what I was reading, it seemed like that was still a requirement. It's the pre-determined command words that leads me to believe that it's set up easily for a VTT. Plus, the team whose job it was to make...

D&D 5E (2024) Command is the Perfect Encapsulation of Everything I Don't Like About 5.5e

Without having seen the actual new wording of the spell, but merely putting some dots together from the first few pages... It looks like Command has been changed to make it easy to work in a digital environment.

    D&D 5E (2024) D&D 2024 Rules Oddities (Kibbles’ Collected Complaints)

I wouldn't want to play in a game where there is an optimal strategy. This is why I stopped playing M:tG. Out of all the cards available in a "modern" set, there seemed to be only 3 or 4 viable decks. It became next to impossible to find a group to play for fun.

D&D General Interview with D&D VP Jess Lanzillo on Comicbook.com

I was disappointed when Adventurers League didn't have a similar reward system.

D&D General Interview with D&D VP Jess Lanzillo on Comicbook.com

I absolutely agree. What I would like to see done, if there were some sort of "loot crate" thing, is award them for meeting goals...much like other places have Badges. Maybe: Every X hours of being in the DM role Every X hours of being in the Player role Every X hours running your Campaign...

D&D General Interview with D&D VP Jess Lanzillo on Comicbook.com

I believe that the harm stems from a person's lack of self control, so only harmful to some. Casinos and other gambling services thrive off of these folks. Some people hold the companies accountable, and others hold the individual accountable. This then leads us down the path of "if the...

    D&D 5E (2024) You're not planning on getting 2024 D&D? Why is that?

Other: I bought the core 5e books 10 years ago. They're still in pristine condition. No need to buy a new set of 5e.

    Gen Con Sold Out!

One resource I use to find some local and regional conventions is the website tabletop.events Quite a few conventions use the service to help manage badges and event signup within the cons. I actually just used it last night to help figure out which conventions I would go to next year...and one...

    Gen Con Sold Out!

The last GenCon I hit was in 2014, and after that one I was convinced that I just couldn't do it anymore. I can only imagine what it's like now that both the board game and RPG industry has exploded.

D&D General Who’s going to GaryCon? Ticket sales are live

Regarding egos, I've never had a problem with the folks I consider to be the "real celebrities", who have always been gracious and generous with their time. There were quite a few podcasters and streamers who felt that they didn't need to wait in line for coffee or a beer. The only reason I...

D&D General Who’s going to GaryCon? Ticket sales are live

The last couple of years, I have said that I wouldn't go back...but then I end up going again. This year the amount of people was just too much for me. Honestly, that was my only complaint about this year. Well, I guess going along with that, there were quite a few people who were unable to...

Which Edition of D&D (or OSR Ruleset) Has the Best GMing Advice?

I really appreciate how this thread made me really consider my DM'ing and how I learned. I've never really thought about it that deeply before. I started with the AD&D 1st ed. DMG, and my two conclusions were 1) I'm a referee and 2) this game is real hard as a DM (I was about 10 years old). I...

WotC D&D Historian Ben Riggs says the OGL fiasco was Chris Cocks idea.

D&D General Grateful for Old-School Essentials

I too am grateful for OSE. I feel I had overlooked it for far too long after experimenting with other systems. My upcoming "campaign" will just be going through the boxes and shelves of modules and Dungeon magazines I acquired in the AD&D and B/X years. First I looked at just using RC, but I...

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

I asked one of the librarians if they knew of anyone in the area interested in playing because I was interested in running something. Luckily they were already familiar with RPGs in general, and directed me to their Activities Director. We set up a day/time for a Session 0 in one of their...

D&D General Shocked how hard it is to get new players now-a-days

Myself and a few other DMs in my area have had success in the less traditional places. We have done the public library thing with an overwhelming attendance...had to bring 2 other DMs in. There are local pubs and breweries who do a game night, and we always have a full table and the majority...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

I fully admit that I skipped that part, and went straight to the salmon-shaded boxed text. Then once I noticed that the designer who was calling it "slander" was Kuntz, I rolled my eyes. Still wondering why anyone takes Kuntz seriously. He has trouble recalling what happened back then, or at...

D&D Historian Benn Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism

The way it's presented on this site, it does seem like this all started out of nowhere, and not as a response to backlash over a disclaimer. The title of the thread is "D&D Historian Ben Riggs On Gary Gygax & Sexism", subtitle "D&D historian Ben Riggs delved into the facts". No mention that...
