    2 Questions

I think I see what some people are saying. Look at it this way, using this dialogue as an example: Rule-maker: "She retains her Dexterity bonus to AC." (An all-encompassing statement) Player: "What if she is flat-footed?" Rule-maker: "Even if she is caught flat-footed." Player: "Does she get...

Question on Pro Evil and Improved Trip

Thanks for the replies everyone. One of the things that I was looking for was if anyone else recalls reading an article or FAQ or something that specified that Protection from Evil only protection from direct control powers, like Dominate or Majic Jar (like a Sage Advice, for example)? I am...

Hello. I have 2 things to ask/discuss and was unable to locate any previous information since I dont have access to a Search function. FIRST I need some clarification on the spell Protection from Evil. The spell states that it will grant protection from echantement type of magic and magic that...

    Deflect Arrows

Sorry if this was addressed before: I cant seem to find a search function on this Message Board. Anyway, On page 93 of the Players Handbook v3.5 there is the Deflect Arrows feat. It mentions that once per round, the character can deflect a ranged weapon attack that would have hit them. However...

Help: Evil DM sundered my wand :(

That's it? My friends and I were playing level 12 characters and encountered a trio of Fire Giants (who have Improved Sunder). Once the DM realized how easy it was to break things, he was Sundering things left and right. My archer lost his bow, the fighter lost his greateaxe and the cleric lost...

Protections for a high level wizard?

I have a question which is related to this topic (which is why I didnt start another thread). What would a high level enemy Wizard (say level 15-18) do who was caught unaware and the players were running an Anti-Magic Field? For example, lets take a stereotypical dungeon, that has a plethora of...

    Hexes or Squares?

I would prefer Hexes, however squares are better for dungeons and dragons because of the frequent indoor locales. Hexes dont translate well with a lot of square rooms and rectangular halls, etc. I think that Hexes would be better for a large or outdoor area.

Classes and Levels or Point buy

I originally thought that I liked point buy systems, but when I realized that after 20 years of gaming, about 95% of the games I have played have been class/level based, I concluded that I *must* like that system better ;)

    +3 Defender - Usage

Doesnt this imply that the weapon must be "used" to get the benefit, not just "held"?

Is there such a thing as an undead troll???

Even that is not totally correct. Trolls can still die to starvation, suffocation or drowning. They have a super ability to heal themselves, but still need to eat and breath.

    Punishing your players

Two situations will cause me to increase the difficulty of an encounter on the fly, or just introduce a really difficult encounter: 1) I really hate arrogance in players. It really annoys me when players act all uppity about this character's ability and get a "there is nothing we cant handle"...

How do you convince someone of the truth

Thats what I thought as well. If you are sincere and honest, then diplomacy would be the skill used to convince someone. If you were lying and trying to fool someone, then use Bluff.

Aiming Fireballs soi they don't hit the party?

I originally made this ruling: -If the area effect spell has no chance of harming allies, then its goes off where you want it to. -If the area spell could catch allies and you want to aim it so it hits the enemies only, you had to make an Intelligence check (DC 10). -If the check succeeded, the...

    What was Gandalf's XP level?

Gandalf = Fighter 4/Rogue 12, with a lot of ranks in Use Magic Device and a lot of magic items :p:lol: hahahahahahaha

What is your most trivial house rule?

I have a few that may be called "trivial": 1) I let Monks and Paladins multiclass freely. 2) I ruled that you cannot 5' step diagonal "through" a blocked square. For example if you are just past the corner of a wall, you cannot 5' step "diagonally" to the other side of the corner. On this rule...

Costs for leveling up in AD&D1

I think that the poll needs another entry that reads: "There were training costs in AD&D1?" :p

    Your original die

I first got a basic D&D set around 1985. It came with a set of simple blue dice. I still have the d20 that came with that set. Over the years, it has become rather "rounded", a lot of the numbers have worn off and it is referred to as the "ball die". When rolled, it tends to keep rolling around...

    Ruling on spell timing

Thanks for all the feedback. This is what happened on my last gaming session: Previously in the fight, the Wizard had cast Cloudkill. At the beginning of his turn, we would advance the Cloudkill 10'. On one round, the Wizard started casting Enlarge Person on a team mate (which has a 1 round...

    Ruling on spell timing

I need some opinion for a game mechanic ruling: 1) The spell Cloudkill states that it moves 10' each round. Since it comes into being on the initiative of the person that casted the spell, I thought it was safe to assume that it would move on the same iniative as the person that casted the...

Would your group stop a woman from joining?

Well then, in that case I dont understand the point of the question. If gender has no bearing on the question, the question could be "Would your group stop a person from joining?"
