Who should be the new James Bond? (merged with "Brosnan Quits" Thread)

You're going to have stirred up a hornet's nest with that... I think Dalton was by far the best. The scripts and films he was involved with weren't that good, but his portrayal of the character was better than any of the other four.

    Classics of Fantasy

Wow. You're really well read! I read all the REH Conan stories a while back, and I'm working my way through Fafhrd and the Gray Mouser now. The Leiber stories are very, very, variable. The bad ones are very bad. The quality of Howard's stuff is very consistent, if you pick up a random Conan...

Weapon-a-Week: Bec de Corbin, Earspoon & Lucern Hammer.

Three exotic daggers, as requested. I've tried to make them useful additions to the rules a character might select, rather than just exotica. This is the furthest outside the core rules I've yet gone, so I'd appreciate any comments regarding their balance in play. Exotic Weapons Light Melee...

Perdido Street Station -- spoilers aplenty!!! You have been warned!

Can I ask what's so cool about the Ambassador of Hell? It sounds intriguing and I keep on hearing mentions of it.

What does the word "Vorpal" come from?

Okay, this is a waste of time, but I am bored. It just kills me that someone can make up a nonsense word, and if they do it well enough other people will add a definition and put it in the dictionary. I searched for Through the Looking-Glass in the quotations attached to words in the OED. bold...

What does the word "Vorpal" come from?

From the online Oxford English Dictionary. It's ironic that meanings have been assigned to nonsense words he invented and have subsequently made it into the dictionary. Perhaps in a century's time people will be reading Jabberwocky and what exactly is going on will be crystal clear.

How detailed are your wilderness/overland maps?

The best "solution" to this I've been able to come up with is the impact of monsters on society. Large cities are going to be very well defended, and the area near them safe. As you get further and further away from civilisation the wilds will get gradually more dangerous until you get...

Which of these sterotypical PCs have appeared the most in your campaigns?

Please, post this thread again! Only don't mess up the poll! It'll be really interesting to see what options get the most marks.

Weapon-a-Week: Bec de Corbin, Earspoon & Lucern Hammer.

For the next selection of weapons we have some polearms, a category which opens up a whole new world of possibilities in terms of equipment. These are martial reach weapons; so you don't just have the glaive, guisarme and ranseur to choose between. Martial Weapons Two-Handed Melee Weapons...

    The Chronicles of Narnia

You're refering to my post. I thought it would be worthwhile mentioning the subtext, in the context of the original question. My post was possibly more informative for the questioner than a single sentence "Yes, I liked it". And surely, since he asked, "did you enjoy them?" saying "No I didn't"...

    The Chronicles of Narnia

The Once and Future King consists of five books. The Sword in the Stone, The Queen of Air and Darkness, The Ill-Made Knight, The Candle in the Wind and The Book of Merlyn. The Sword in the Stone was made into the Disney film, and is the one with the talking animals (and the shapeshifting - a...

    The Chronicles of Narnia

I dislike them. I never found them interesting when I was a child. And I just think they're trite now. Some people really love them, and others hate them just as much. Phillip Pullman who wrote His Dark Materials has been really, really nasty about them. I couldn't confirm or deny any of...

Help me optimize a phaerimm killer

Just some seperate advice. If I were building a phaerimm killer I'd think about the following options. Improved Initiative. In spell duels you really want to go first. Conjuration. In 3.5e it ignores SR. Offensive "blasting" spells from this school is a must. Perhaps even Spell Focus to bump...

Plot and Background for my very first adventure!

I think what the DM has done is fair. By creating a character with a background the player accepts that his character will have a routine which can be exploited. If I made a character in the city-guard, the DM would be entitled to have something happen on my watch, if I made a Druid Herbalist...

    George R. R. Martin Interview

I'm not complaining about Martin at all. I think he's great and I love his books. Some people feel that some of the impressions given to readers in the first three books may not be entirely correct. If this is true, then Martin can't come out and say "The Kingsguard were ordered to the Tower of...

    Tavern Brawls are THE BOMB!

Ages ago - in one of the first games of D&D I ever played - I was DMing a group and the adventure started with everyone meeting up in a tavern. Anyway, the Dwarf ordered a drink and then threw it over someone because of some (imagined) slight. A fist fight kicked off, a while later someone...

Weapon-a-Week: Bec de Corbin, Earspoon & Lucern Hammer.

The estoc is a big pointed sword (sometimes with additional guards halfway down the point), the goupillon is a big flail (sometimes described with more than one flail head), and the martel is a big hammer. I didn't feel there was a great deal I could say. If I can come up with a good wording...

    Sword and Sandals Campaign Settings?

Yeah, I've no problem with a Greek or Roman feel. In fact I'd quite like it. Does Morningstar or Arcanis do it well? One thing I'd like to avoid - if possible - is the standard Teutonic feel (elves, dwarves, goblins, etc.) retro-fitted outside the kind of cultural area where it makes sense.

Can anyone recommend any? I'm getting tired of pseudo-European settings.
