    Returning to the game

Seems a little strange to me. It would be like saying...I've decided to learn how to cook and for my first dish I'm going to cook 1,000 olives and nothing else. Then, tomorrow, an entire turkey. Your examples are extremely edge-case and your players will learn the wrong lessons. Normal...

    Returning to the game

I believe D&D4 teaches players bad lessons. Playing with a group who are veteran D&D players across 5 editions of the game and 4 decades, because of D&D's focus on tactical encounter-oriented gameplay, when monsters from one encounter would, at my command, scurry off to the next room to alert...

    Returning to the game

Disagree on the minion suggestion. You've got a party of almost all strikers. Highly unsatisfying for fighting minions. Minions make Controllers feel awesome, because they can kill large swaths of them at once. Minions frustrate strikers because it doesn't matter how much damage you do, the...

What is the best computer game you have ever played?

I've been playing video games since about 1977, when I was 7 years old, and the most astonishing game I've ever played was Mass Effect 2 which came out last year. And I find this amazing and remarkable because it indicates the Golden Age is probably yet to come.

A reason why 4E is not as popular as it could have been

I feel as though this is relevant to the discussion. Why D&D Sucks | SquareMans In order to understand the reaction to 4E, we need some historical perspective. What was 4E a reaction to? Who was the target audience?

How do you make NPCs out of PC classes?

    I'll check it out! Thanks!

How do you make NPCs out of PC classes?

I want to run an encounter between a bunch of people. Humans, who have PC classes, as the enemy. My expectation was that I could just go into the Monster Builder and type "Hexblade" or "Rogue" and find a human NPC by that name with powers that are obvious analogues to their PC equivalents and...

    Stonefang Pass: Need Advice/Ideas

Your English is understandable. :D I had a similar problem with an adventure and what I did was just give the players a resource that let them take a rest in a minute. You know like, Lembas Wafers or something. You already have a Time Limit and a Penalty For Failure, no reason to also force...

    Help With A Skill Challenge

I think a good idea is keeping each Semester's Final an Arcane test. I like the idea of a kind of Jets vs Sharks Encounter between the PC and his buddies and his Romantic and Academic Rival and his buddies. But I also like the idea of an out-and-out duel. Possibly his Rival is also a...

    Help With A Skill Challenge

More thoughts.... I think the player can voluntarily up the challenge to 10 successes by getting into a special research program, and that is what requires the Diplomacy. This is above and beyond the post graduate work.

    Help With A Skill Challenge

A PC Hexblade is starting the game as a graduate of a college of Sorcery and I wanted to begin the game by rewinding the clock back to when he started at school and doing 4 years at University as a Skill Challenge. I figured 8 successes was proper, breaking each Year up into 2 Semesters. I'd...

Do you think WoTC should be sued?

I think it's unequivocally the dumbest thing I've heard this week. You should open a game store.

Ran my first Encounter in Fantasy Grounds (VTT) with 3 players

You can get the normal version and later upgrade to the Ultimate license, but that is not *evident* on the website so I ended up taking a huge leap of faith and dropping $150 on the Ultimate. Which means I was *highly* motivated to figure it out. :D If they could package this software up for...

Ran my first Encounter in Fantasy Grounds (VTT) with 3 players

In November I spend $150 on the Fantasy Grounds II ULTIMATE LICENSE. Which is the "anyone can join your game with the free version, no one else needs pay anything" version. It took me WEEKS, almost 2 months, just to get to the point where I felt like I had some idea what was going on. It's...

Why is Online Gaming considered Second Class?

Forgive me if someone else has already said this. I think the best play is between 15 and 22. That's First Class. Because that's when players find it easiest to *believe* in the reality of the game world. They believe in the reality of their characters. This is an illusion that becomes harder...

Dunjinni Questions: Mostly Cities and Urban Stuff

How long would it take a normal user to whip up a street encounter in Dunjinni? I'm planning on running a lot of D&D via Fantasy Grounds and while there are lots of map resources online, I find them hard to hunt down and search through and so I'm wondering if it some cases it would be easier to...

    New D&D In-Store Play Program

They've got Encounters, which is basically for new players. Now they've got a program for experienced players. Seems reasonable.

    Dungeon adventure posted

I love the Delve format, it's exactly what I need. I find the "plots" of most modules awful and tortured. Let me handle that. Just give me locations and encounters. My time is better spent taking them and just renaming the bad guys and giving them motivations.
