D&D 5E (2014) The new Dungeons & Dragons Starter Set - and online tools?

I'd love to see an app for phones and tablets that lets you make characters but which also lets the DM run combat from his app, communicate via bluetooth to the players' apps and track and run everything that way. That's probably within the actual scope of what WotC can do, it's something...

Best campaign for 1-6? Looking for a prelude to Red Hand of Doom

Hmm, I'm not sure I realized TOEE was that level range.

Best campaign for 1-6? Looking for a prelude to Red Hand of Doom

Is there a good, dungeony, old school (look and feel, can be recent) adv étude that gets players from level one to six? I'm looking for something to act as a setup or prelude for Red Hand of Doom. Edition doesn't matter.

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

Duncan IV gets an 18 strength thanks to 4d6! We get to roll percentile strength in the fourth video! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y6ssk9xf_7U

Do you think the OGL was a good idea?

I thing the absence of robust online support from WotC created a perceived need in the marketplace for material. WotC already produced more product than anyone could use in a lifetime of play. But it sat on the shelves next to even *more* stuff. I don't think there was any relation between the...

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

Wow, yeah that was a huge oversight. This is the second version of this video I did, I wasn't happy with the first one, but as if often the case when you scrap something and do it again, you lose good stuff from the first version and that's what happened here. Ah well, I'll see if I can fit...

    D&D 5E (2014) Are you ready for a new edition of D&D?

Yyyes. Yes. I loved 4E but I don't find it good for the kind of game I like to run. And the kind of game WotC expected me to run, they didn't write good adventures for. So yeah, bring on 5.

    D&D 5E (2014) Legends & Lore 03.10.2014: Full-spellcasting Bard

Reading the first three paragraphs of that article convinced me we don't need a Bard, we have the Rogue.

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

I think the current plan is: Red Box Basic AD&D Unearthed Arcana AD&D 2 Skills & Powers 3E 3.5 Book of Nine Swords 4E Essentials 5E. THEN...we put the various fighters to use. :D See how combat changed over the years.

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

I'm really, really glad you guys like this. I had no expectations when I put this up. It was mostly something I did for me. The next one I plan on doing is this one, mostly because it's the one I have. :D Then on to AD&D.

    Dungeon Level = Monster Level?

I remember Gygax being worried that the term "level" being used everywhere was going to confuse everyone so in the AD&D DMG (I believe) he advised people use different terms like "circle" for character level and "order" for spell. I just looked through the DMG and cannot find that reference...

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

The series continues! I decided not to jump straight to 1979 because a LOT of the game we know took shape in 1976, two years after the original booklets came out. Thanks to the Greyhawk supplement, Duncan gets to use his strength for something. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wKN8XJiB7lU Alas...

    D&D 5E (2014) What belongs in a $50 PHB?

I dunno how normal this is, but if I want something, and can afford it, I don't normally worry about how much it costs. So I can't really make an evaluation like "What should a $50 PHB have?" as opposed to a $40 or $30 or $60 book.

Making a Character in Every Edition of D&D, Part One: 1974

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nnjA4D0Z4pM I thought this would be a short video, doesn't take that long to make a dude in OD&D, but I became fascinated with all the weirdness in this game, and ended up doing a bunch of research, "why is this like this?" Watch in HD otherwise you won't be able...

Example of a Sloping Passage Getting the Party into Trouble

Nevermind! I searched through a bunch of adventures, Keep on the Borderlands, In Search of Adventure, Against the Cult of the Reptile God, Hidden Shrine of Tamoachan, Giants, Slavers, and then Temple of Elemental Evil. It *is* in the Temple of Elemental Evil! Hah! Room 109.

Example of a Sloping Passage Getting the Party into Trouble

Dwarves can detect sloping passages, and I know from talking to Gary about it that this ability was designed to thwart the DM's attempt to trick the party into going down a level into a more difficult dungeon level. You think you're on level 1, but you're really on level 2. And what level you're...

My players' pet theory is better than what I had planned. Is it cheesy for me to change things to match?

There's no such thing as DM integrity, there's only what works. Go with their idea. Or add to it, permute it. You're the gm.

D&D 5E (2014) Are you going to miss AEDU? (And did you feel a lack in the playtest because of it?)

I will miss it, but I'm also glad it's gone. I loved the way it made you feel as a player. All these cool options! Every round neat choices! Combos! So many cool new powers to look forward to! You felt like a star on your turn. I liked how they made everyone think tactically. Like a wargame or...

    Good Adventure for Thieves

Ok, so, I haven't looked at it yet, but purely based on your one line description, The Star of Thing is *exactly* what I need. That's one sale!
