    Modifying "pre-constructed" items

How far can someone go in modifying weapons and armor that are "usually preconstructed with specific abilities"? I imagine it's a fairly simple matter when the character just wants to improve his +3 frost brand sword to +4. How about if a character wants to make his +2 greatsword into a +3...

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

So then, does a Divine Oracle with two levels in Master Thrower (okay, it's bizarre) get Improved Evasion? ;)

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

Well, I have no idea whether or not anyone still cares about this debate, but I went ahead and emailed "Sage Advice" to see what they say. I tried to present both sides of the argument in a fair manner. I'll return with an update if I ever hear anything back. :)

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

I'm a slow thinker, what can I say... :) It occurs to me that I don't quite buy this analogy either. Since Sudden Strike is, in essence, a limited form of Sneak Attack, it's necessary to state that it functions equivalently as a prerequisite, since Sudden Strike doesn't do everything Sneak...

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

So, logically, why would a character who can evade regardless of armor be prohibited from entry to a prestige class that's open to a character who can evade only in light or no armor?

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

It could be argued that since Prescient Sense applies under all circumstances that (standard) Evasion would also apply, the function of (standard) Evasion is subsumed under Prescient Sense. If the purpose of a prerequisite is to say "You must be able to do X before you're qualified to learn Y"...

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

That's a better argument than the Mettle analogy. After reading all the replies, I have pretty much come to agree with you on this point. Evasion =/= Prescient Sense.

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

Well, you can rationalize practically anything in search of the ultimate munch... ;) Actually, I can imagine a "magical investigator" type of character who takes some levels in Divine Oracle for the Divination bonuses, then goes into (for instance) Fochlucan lyrist. (Not that this is a...

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

I wouldn't equate Mettle and Evasion because they apply to different saves. Mechanically, Prescient Sense and Evasion function identically, except for the provision that Prescient Sense isn't limited by armor. A related question: Some prestige classes gain Evasion, with the additional benefit...

    The Divine Oracle's Prescient Sense

I haven't found a ruling anywhere on this... The Divine Oracle prestige class (Complete Divine) gains the ability "Prescient Sense" at 2nd level, which functions more or less identically to Evasion (except that the oracle can use it in any type of armor). The text describes it as a "form of...

    Another probably basic question...

Cool; thanks for the replies! So the big question: Does having access to these feats mean that the half-elf isn't underpowered after all? :p

    Probably a really basic question...

    That's just contradiction. :]

    Another probably basic question...

I was originally going to post this in the "underpowered half-elves" thread, but it seemed like that thread drifted a bit... Anyway: Having recently read Races of the Wild, I noticed that there were a few feats that had "Elf" listed as a prerequisite. My question is, does the half-elf's...

    Probably a really basic question...

Well, I was just referring to the "+1 level of [whatever]" type of progressions. I didn't mean to start an argument... :o For the record, I'd have to side with the "only cleric/druid spells can be converted" camp. Thanks, Pazu

    Probably a really basic question...

    Thanks! --Pazu

    Probably a really basic question...

Apologies if I've missed a rule somewhere, but: If a cleric or druid takes a prestige class that gives spellcasting advancement, can the spells gained through advancement in the prestige class be converted to spontaneous healing/summoning? Or is spell conversion limited to the spells gained...

Everyone, Tell us about your games, please!

Re: Lurkers, Non-Genconners, Tell us about your games, please! Another lurker steps up to the microphone... Seven. [B] No, although I've been mulling over the idea lately. [B] Two of the others GM (one of whom is my lovely wife! :) ). We have two campaigns running on alternate weeks...

Do you admit to being a gamer?

I think I'm relatively "out" as a gamer, but I don't know that it comes up that often. It's not on my curriculum vitae, just because there's really no point in listing my hobbies there. When our lab wanted me to write a brief bio and personal description for their "New Doctor Hired" article...

Rant about (lack of) info in new 3.5 conversion guide

Can you show me exactly where this document is entitled or described as a "Conversion Guide"? Because it sure looks to me like it's called an "Update". Maybe we got different downloads. Can you also explain to me why you feel the need to rant both here and on the WoTC boards simultaneously...
