D&D 4E How Maddman (plans) to fix 4e

My wife is hot AND pregnant. That might count for double, depending on your inclinations.

    D&D 3.x Wizard Schools (3.5 conversion to 4th ed?)

If, on the other hand, you insist on converting, then there are a few ways that you can go about it. Go cleric instead. They have several summoning style powers. Reskin the wizard's powers. Flaming Sphere becomes a nice Fire Elemental, and if your DM is up for it, try switching the keyword on...

    D&D 4E 4E Monk Problem Solved

Multiclassing gets sorta weird then. You have to think about what other classes can do with the Monk's stuff.

D&D 4E How Maddman (plans) to fix 4e

I love all of these! *subscribes* This is the first wound system that I actually like. Being able to choose when to apply it should eliminate the death spiral, unless the player wants it. It makes it a narrative tool. While I don't think that 4e needs any RP rules in addition to what they have...

    D&D 4E 4E Monk Problem Solved

I usually don't play the typical "Kill monsters, take their stuff" games. I like intrigue, love kill bad guys, but don't like the take-their-stuff part. I have been working on some ideas for reskinning magic items in a way that keeps their mechanical benefits, but eliminates the loot aspects. I...

    Getting rid of treasure distribution

For experience, I go with 6-10 appropriate encounters. If they have gotten their butts handed to them lately, I level them earlier. For treasure, I kinda use my own system. I give each player a neck item, a suit of armor, and two weapons, all equal to their level. These items are not actaul...

    D&D 4E 4E Monk Problem Solved

I like the OP's solution better.

Ranger Variant and Unarmed fighting feats

The point is to make a monk like character that doesn't suck. Basing it on a ranger was WotC's idea. Having a character that is basically a ranger, but can't fill the role of a ranger would make it an inferior ranger. Why do we need to try to inject realism in a fantasy game? Just because in...

Ranger Variant and Unarmed fighting feats

Yeah, I was being conservative, and using the scimitar and scimitar dance as the standard of balance. It is not necessarily the standard, but it does pump out the highest damage without MCing to fighter. I still like my monks to not need magic weapons.

Ranger Variant and Unarmed fighting feats

Since the ranger is balanced around 1d8 weapons, and this is a hack of the ranger, I would say just give them a class property that mimics one of the 1d8 weapons entirely when they fight unarmed. You could use the longsword as a start. +3 proficiency bonus, 1d8 damage. This is not overpowered...

    Reducing Monster Hit Points?

Coming from your standpoint, I fully understand now why you are going your way. If there are no damage rolls, the number of calculations for your method is cut way down. Considering your group, I also understand the ruluctance to just cut all HP by 1/4. A little extra work on your part behind...

    D&D 4E PbP House Rules for 4e

Play-by-post is a very fun format for role playing. It opens up the possibilities for groups that you can play with, it creates a very interesting narrative, and it allows you to role play in small increments of time. Unfortunately, it takes forever to get anywhere. I have run into this problem...

    D&D 4E A few questions about modifying 4e rules.

The con bonus/level to HP being gone is not strange in 4e. It works like this. Constitution (not just bonus) to HP at 1st level. This is like double con bonus +10. Con bonus to Healing Surges. This is an extra HP bonus wqual to your total HP/4 per healing surge. This scales with level. Since...

Ability score array vs. point buy

I like point buy because it allows me to start with odd (read not even) stats. I feel like a combination of odd and even stats makes the ability bonus progression a little smoother. Every level I get a bonus I change one of my ability mods. I just like how it feels better. And I like min/max...

    Reducing Monster Hit Points?

So the 75% HP/1.33%Damage adjustment to monsters works, but I find it rather inelegant. I know that players don't like their HP lowered, but effectively, they have lower HP this way. On top of that, you have to do extra math on every damage roll during combat, which seems to be counterproductive...

    Pre-Game Documents

Holy crap! Can I get my lawyer to check these out before I fill anything in? ;) It is all personal preference, and I understand where this is coming from, but I hope that I never have to use something like this. If I game with a group that doesn't understand that everyone pitches in for food, I...

    Two handed weapon wielding ranger.

With the wording of the powers, when wielding one weapon as I described would allow you to attack twice with that weapon. And get the +1 damage. Just different description than wielding two weapons. The thing is, there is no reason to think that wielding two weapons should let you attack more...

    Return to Northmoor IC

As Aiffe sings, the other red headed deck hand, -this one Cad-, jumps up on a large crate. He begins dancing in the traditionally popular style in the Northmoor. The dance is pretty intricate and fast paced, and Cad keeps up extremely well with Aiffe's song. The dance involves a lot of kicking...

    Return to Northmoor IC

The raucous laughter continues, this time at Orthanach's expense. There is definitely a feeling of good cheer about the group now. One of the red headed brothers, -the one you have learned is called Rone-, splashes over to Orthanach and offers him a waterskin and a piece of salted meat. "Here,"...
