Tabletopocalypse Now - GMS' thoughts about the decline in the hobby

Of course it is. Number 1 is the 8000 ound gorilla, Wotc. The next step down is Pazio, who doesnt do nearly the numbers WotC does. Then is WHF and DH/RT which does no where near Paizo sales numbers....then comes Dresden- which did according to the 3rd quarter.....3000 sales. Thats a niche of...

Tabletopocalypse Now - GMS' thoughts about the decline in the hobby

He also raises some invalid points. I have to agree with a friend- he uses a niche of a niche of a niche product (Dresden files product) to illustrate his point? Or as he said: Pointing to the sales of the Dresden Files RPG as a landmark is disingenuous, in my opinion. I'd be much more...

    Pay to Play at FLGS?

Except most of those arent valid comparison to the OP story: Sure if I sat at a resturant table for 2 hours, they would expect you to order, because they seated you. But If I were to ask for a menu and look at it for an hour in the lobby, they woudnt exactly expect an order. They might ask to...

    DM advice: Is this fair?

The only problem I have is(without seeing the map) there is no indication its needed till later. The goblet/statue is in room 5, while the chest and riddle is in room 16. How would they even know to save the one person until then? Its not that its fair or unfair. It just seems there;s no hint...

Big Climatic Battle -- Fizzles due to save or die...

I think that was pretty awesome. Teh fact that you want to handwave the plan to fail, speaks volumes more about you then the save or die issues. Bad idea to squash good planning like that. But here's the thing- what did they do with the body? Just because he died doesnt mean he will stay dead...

D&D 3.x (3.5) Problem player and campaign issues

To put this bluntly, you hav ea party that is a sledge hammer problem, and your trying to solve it with a bigger sledge hammer. And are currently unsuccessful. So instead of a sledge hammer you really should be using a knife. There are several suggestions floating around alread, but frankly...

How amusing would it be to have the armor's ego finally break free and take control of the undead an an unopportune time? I cant see an intellegent object like that eventually not breaking free....

    Dancey v. Mearls?

Given history though, I think it have less then sitting on laurels and more to see if they can get you to buy the "same" books again, ala 3.0/3.5

Ryan Dancey - D&D in a Death Spiral

Depends on what you mean by "pull themselves togther" exactly. They are in better finacial shape then they were before-removed debt, reduced costs. However, long term? If you look at their unit sales they seem to still be shrinking overall, not growing. I wouldnt call it a death spiral, but I...

    Dancey v. Mearls?

Do you have a link for that? I'd be interested to see that in context. I dont think either, Darcy or Mearls is correct, but leaning a touch more to Darcy. Dont think everything is quite great in 4e land, otherwise why the soft reboot with essentials.(which isnt nearly the reboot 3.5 was, nor...

Pathfinder 1E If Paizo can, why can't Wizards of the Coast?

I agree it be different, but its also on HOW Paizo goes about it vs WotC. Paizo is a smaller company, and its given more leeway in their decisions, not because their a smaller company per say and might go belly up, but they are pretty much always up front and communicating VERY well with...

Pathfinder 1E If Paizo can, why can't Wizards of the Coast?

A variety of reasons- Pazio has a well of trust and good will- they havent lied to their customers. WotC? Used that well up from 3.0 to 3.5 conversion. Second? One is a rules change= 3.0-3.5 and 4e to essentials, The world guide to the inner sea is not a rules change. Its an expasion on an...

WOTC plastic minis deserve to be in metal!

Actually, you'd be wrong. Go look at Games workshop models. They use CAD for all their plastics and they turn out fantastic. Its a matter of time and effort they putinto it. Frankly mass produced prepainted, there's very few who put in the effort to get them very well done.

    Bloodthirsty PC's

The problem is, while I agree in the general that bloodthristy players can be a problem, and you can use a variety of tools to get them focused on other methods, that particular example was a rather poor example of it. There are a host of other ways.

    Bloodthirsty PC's

Except of course, it doesnt change what was done, nor deeds done previously. Your entitled to yours and theirs, but say one of mine, the barbarian, once a threat to the clan, he ends it. And he certainly was one. Once corrupted, whose to say he wouldnt again? Really doesnt change much.
