Races & Classes by the Numbers

I won't take a crack at spelling that, but somehow I suspect it's not in homage to Conan Doyle. AFAIK, Dr Watson isn't the number one rolemodel of the gangsta set.

Of gishes and arcane defencers and whatnot: Is 4th ed. language for everyone?

In my mind's eye I see a character with a +2 vorpal moustache.

D&D 4E 4e Wizards - No More Necromancers, Enchanters, Summoners???

I'm not too bothered. I played Rolemaster for several years, and grew to like the framework of magic it presented: - Channeling characters conduct the power of faith to weave magic in the name of their cause - Essence users artfully mould the raw energy of the universe (the Force) to...

Who is this person, and why do they not know what a gish is?

It sounds onomatopoeic, but of something slushy and unpleasant. It's also only a short vowel away from a word which, in these parts, is crass and vulgar. When people use it on the boards, it reminds me of when I was ten and first learned about swear words. We felt so cool using them.

Of gishes and arcane defencers and whatnot: Is 4th ed. language for everyone?

If RPG terms make no sense, RPG forum terms make even less. When I hear conceited hipsters criticise a musical genre or musician (which is often), I'm tempted to shout "badwrongfun!". But that would mark me out as deeply uncool, and embarrass my far-more-tolerant-of-hipster-cretins girlfriend.

Races & Classes by the Numbers

Yes, but the intended audience, HaXXmagepoobumw00t, king of the Misty Glade WoW server, knows he is cool. As cool as the shapely pixels of his she-elf alter-ego.

R&C Art, the Women of R&C

I have a problem with all of those things, all for the same reason. For me, spiked chains and chainmail crop-tops are interchangeable as examples of the unverisimilitudinous* themes I abhor. * I got a headache just typing it

R&C Art, the Women of R&C

Thrashing one's wife for disobedience was also iconic at one time, but sometimes one is admired for adopting new icons. I know how hyperbolic that is, but I'm too lazy right now to think of a better comparison.

Chill out, daddy-o. The modern kids are hip to rad wuxia anime warcraft, yo? Ain't groovy to harsh them on account of da way dey rap at ya. If the hep young cats want a blinged-up tank/controller named "w00tHaXXor von ROFL III", it's all cool, man. All cool.

What do you like about D&D?

I like it because it's largely utilitarian. I like the simple abstraction of hitpoints and numerical bonuses, as opposed to systems which use complex and time-consuming methods of resolution.

    Erick Wujcik

That's awful. I had some fine times playing TMNT in high school. If it weren't for Erick, I never would have played a mutant otter daredevil. And even for a roleplayer, that's new ground.

Who is this person, and why do they not know what a gish is?

Quite so. I hope the OP is shortly going to acknowledge that this thread was started in good humour. Everyone in my game group has been playing for 15 years+, and I am the only one among them who is likely to know what "gish" means, because Iim the only one geekish enough to frequent D&D...

New D&D Edition Article - Pretty interesting for all parties.

Oh! I thought you said "hubcap"! Sorry, old joke between me and my best friend from primary school, on the bus home one afternoon in October.

    PoL & population density

I think the appeal of that setup is largely related to another classic D&D debate: how powerful is a hero? For me, a PC is more talented than the average person, and attains levels through luck, determination and taking risks, so a level 4 guard captain doesn't represent a towering heroic...

    Dungeons, Dragons, and Demographics

The passage of previous editions has lulled us into a sense of false security and paved the way for World of Wardungeons & anime wuxia. Whoa! Joke! Joke! Dear god, I hope so, anyway.

To much combat and not enough "roleplaying"!

It may work for a fighter, but if I'm playing a bard or other diplomatic PC, the player often can't match the abilities of the fictional character. Say, for instance, that my bard is negotiating a service with a king in exchange for a magic artifact. I can bargain hard with the DM, laying out...

To much combat and not enough "roleplaying"!

Of course, but that's been the direction of D&D from day one. Board/wargames are accessible and fun, but roleplaying can be demanding and is not to everyone's taste. WotC wants to expand the D&D audience in the WoW generation, and combat is the best bait.

Help me devise a My Little Pony game.

Lovecraft would a great name for a MLP. Ok. Cthulhu turns up, and he's eating all the apples in the orchard! The MLP party has to teach him a lesson by finding a magic cherry tree which produces infinite sweet cherries, so that the Unspeakable One can gorge himself until he has a stomach-ache...

4th ed, the Good & the Bad?

I loathe and despise sigs, but if I didn't, I'd sig all that. Well said. If you want to get real-worldy about it, funnelweb spider venom affects primates but not dogs or cats. Phenylketonurics are at risk from artificial sweeteners. In a fantasy world, it's not hard to surmise that silver...

R&C Art, the Women of R&C

It's a game in which many people play clerics of merciful gods, protecting the innocent from the rapacious forces of darkness, so I disagree. Now, I don't think we need to see illustrations of Throthgor Fell-hand, barbarian master of the Desolate Wastes, feeding babies from a bottle, but how...
