    Draconomicon Excerpt: Heart of Darkness

I'm going to have to check the monster manual to see how strong the Primal Storm is compared to other Level 19 monsters. It seems really really strong.

How did I not see a beholder?

I counted 13 as well and had no problems seeing the gorilla. But then again I know how these things work so I knew something unusual was going to come by.

Vampires, Pop Culture, and Your Game

Aristocrat Vampires. Partially because I'm not quite sure what you meant with "todays vampire" and partially because I'm assuming their villains instead of PCs

    Campaign Setting - Pet Peeves

    1) Mixing sci-fi and fantasy together, poorly. I hate it when people do this, the themes are simply too different. I admit it's *possible* that it can be done well. But this is rarely the case 2) Asian, Arab, African etc settings based solely on European views of the places and bearing no...

Power Sources and Class Creation Guidelines

Don't forget that certain power sources tend towards certain roles. Divine Classes tend towards the Leader role. They usually have at least one ability that gives other classes temporary hitpoints, allows them to use a healing surge or saves. Divine Leaders seem to be better at this part then...

Epic Podcast - good, bad or indifferent?

I'm somewhat disappointed if minions don't hold up in higher level. Perhaps an additional rule, Minions need to be hit twice by Auto-hits before dying? The odd thing about minions: If 4 minions = 1 standard, how come it takes more then 4 hits before you're able to kill a standard? Maybe 1...

3PP releases Witch Doctor, new controller class, for playtest

I think this might be the best 3pp release I've read yet. Will have a better look at it another time though.

    I can't read 4e books like I could 3e books. You?

Fourth edition is formulaic, far too clean and a very boring read. My text books make for more interesting reading. But I didn't buy DnD for pleasurable reading anyway. Third edition wasn't near the amount of struggle 4.0 is, I can sometimes even lose myself in it. But it was not my first...

    Adventure's vault wackyness

The funny thing is I'm not even allowing Double X's in my game. I mean... look at the Double Flail?! If I was playing a light humorous game, then perhaps. If I was playing something ridiculously over the top, ok. But not in my try-to-adhere-to-a-plausible-world game. I think I'll allow the...

    Adventure's vault wackyness

These are two lines I meant (emphasis mine of course). Now, when they say "off-hand" then that means the "Light Blade" part of the Double Sword to me. The second part is self evident. Now, I understand if other people disagree, but I see "off-hand" as the same "off-hand" property as mentioned...

    Balancing Starlock AC

True, I don't believe the feat is recommended, but it does open doors and I think the new system needs that. And while I agree that you can use powers from outside of your pact this would allow Fey and infernal locks to explore the other powers as well. I'm thinking of removing the limitation...

What is a 'God' in D&D?

I like having different kind of Gods for different races.

    Balancing Starlock AC

This remark from the "Barbarian is up" thread made me think. Should there be some way of helping Starlock balance their AC to the same level that other Warlocks have? Perhaps something like this: Feat: This feat (while really focussed on Starlocks) gives warlocks a chance to use more of...

    Adventure's vault wackyness

Hmm, let me explain what I meant. 1) The Double Sword is essentially a Heavy and Light Blade put together. 2) I believe that the heavy (let's say longsword) side is the "main" side of the Double Sword. The Light side is the secondary/off-hand side. Aka the side the rogue uses for almost all...

4E with 1E Feel: Does that appeal to you?

If you said to me "4th edition with a 1st edition feel" I'll say, "Sounds nice, but what's a 1st edition feel?" If you said to me that you wanted to bring something out that increased differentiation between classes; made Rogues feel like Rogues and Wizards like Wizards I'd ask you when and...

    forgotten heroes: Druid...not

Sure, WotC means exactly what they say: "Here's a trademark, love it, buy it" I wouldn't mind seeing this book though, I'm hoping the classes are good enough. Of course, I've got to wonder, are you really criticising a class that wouldn't come out till November? That we don't know anything...

    Adventure's vault wackyness

Anyhow, I would advice people to read the box on page ten of the Adventurers Vault to read exactly how they work. I still think there are sufficient disadvantages that I wouldn't use it as a Rogue.

    NPC Enemy Questions

Not entirely true. At level 1 they have comparable hitpoints and powers. A level one fighter would have about 30 hitpoints, 2 At-Wills,an Encounter and a Daily. An NPC "fighter" would have 32 hitpoints, an At Will, an Encounter and a Daily At level 1 NPC is behind one feat, an action point...

    Adventure's vault wackyness

On the other hand weapon properties and powers only effect the main side, which is most probably the heavy blade side. Which means that the double weapon doesn't bestow those on the Rogue's powers
