argh I hate the argument that "there's nothing new for fighters"... There is nothing wrong with wanting to focus on other things. Sometimes I love playing character where I don't have a zillion things to consider....that way I can focus on the game and not the mechanics!

Out of curiosity why are you making the history up? Is there someone going to explain it to the pcs or are they casting spells that are going to fill in all the blanks? I like to describe interesting items and then work out the history later.... I wish I had my notes here to share, but I do...

0 I prefer skill based characters. I'd rather define my character by what I pick and choose than by a bunch of bloat from a class. Example of bloat: Familiars, paladin's horse..... UA went a long way to fixing some of these issues.

Systems I thought I'd love GURPS - joining the bandwagon. I have had two GMs take a stab at GURPS, one didn't know the rules for combat and the other got bogged down in them whenever combat happened. I love the fluff though... Ars Magica - unless you are going to play online, good luck...
