    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

Yeah, I'll never get how they took their neatly designed "a moment to catch your breath" short rest from 4e and changed it into 5e's "European lunch break" short rest. Just go back to the old way and limit PCs to two short rests a day.

    D&D 5E (2014) So Was That Z Fellow right?

I'l agree that I never liked the combat feats, and I'll agree that "pretty good" is a low bar for how well this edition has done. If anything, the great progress 5th has made in ironing out the errors of the prior editions makes the errors that remain so much more glaring.

D&D 5E (2014) Would you use Paladin "smite" spells if they were not concentration?

I'd go the other way around. Just delete the Divine Smite feature (aside from the extra 1d8 smite damage at 11th) and let paladins used the named Smite spells to do their smiting.

    D&D 5E (2014) What makes a good Lancer?

I'd like to see spear users be able to pull off special maneuvers with their spear; maybe they can disarm a foe, use their spear as leverage to trip a foe, or point the spear at a comrade to inspire them. I also wouldn't mind seeing spear users learn the ability to imbue their spear attacks with...

D&D 5E (2014) Realistic Shields - New, Revised and Immersive

I can't wait until someone reminds us that ring mail is not a real type of armor. It is always my favorite part of these equipment nerd-outs.

Are you going to add the racial feats?

    D&D 5E (2014) COS - Spoilers! Need plot help.

I would not call this a mistake. It is just one branch of a branching storyline.

D&D 5E (2014) CoS Castle Endgame Crazy Stuff

Pildwick II is already a weird encounter. Maybe you can move that encounter to a place more easily accessible in the castle.

D&D 5E (2014) CoS Castle Endgame Crazy Stuff

A wandering veiled bride. If they lift her veil, it reveals a skull instead of a face. She then collapses into a pile of bones and rotted cloth.

    D&D 5E (2014) COS - Spoilers! Need plot help.

My players never followed up with Ismark and left Barovia behind them. I handled it by having Strahd kill Ismark and turn Ireena offscreen. Barovia is now overrun with Strahd Zombies and the wraith of Ismark haunts the Burgomaster's Mansion. The only living souls left in the town are the hags...

    D&D 5E (2014) Tenser's transformation and armor.

Just allow a suit of armor to be an additional focus for the spell, and allow the casting to cause the wizard to magically suit up in the armor as part of the spell. On second thought, do this instead.

D&D 5E (2014) No good deed goes unpunished

Well yeah. It is like the scenario of knocking out a foe and allowing him to run away. There is a big difference between dealing with the possibility that you'll fight him again (or never seeing him again / making an ally) and the certainty that every fleeing foe will return to stab you in your...

D&D 5E (2014) No good deed goes unpunished

I disagree. I feel this shows that the path of the hero is fraught with peril, and this is just an example of that peril. Fundamentally, this is no different than the threat of being eaten by a pack of hill giants; heroes risk disaster with all their generous acts, whether it is funding a town...

Intersectional Feminist Mob is going to be my new band name.

    Edit: WTF stupid forum engine?

While I'll make my own smaller adventures from scratch, I like to let the big sandbox campaigns act as skeletons on which inspiration grows. While running Curse of Strahd with my party, all sort of fun and crazy things have happened that were not detailed in the campaign supplement. On the...

    D&D 5E (2014) Group Rule Deal-Breakers

I'll admit, I've taken to saying "Y'all need Kord" to my D&D friends that refuse my gym invites.

D&D 5E (2014) First literary concept of the "Adventuring Party"?

Canterbury Tales had a pretty strong adventuring party vibe.

D&D 5E (2014) (Houserule) Adding Int to Initiative for All Classes

I like to imagine the three mental stats as mental versions of the physical stats. Charisma is mental Strength Intelligence is mental Dexterity Wisdom is mental Constitution. I wonder if that would be a better way to structure the six stats.

D&D 5E (2014) (Houserule) Adding Int to Initiative for All Classes

I'm still not convinced. Take your example of American football: it is thoroughly plausible that some random smart person thrown into the game might size up the situation more quickly at the snap, even though his ensuing actions (running away, screaming, crawling into a ball, etc.) might not...

D&D 5E (2014) [Xanathar's Guide] What is your first PC you're gonna make?

I'm eager to make a Horizon Walker. I had a ranger-cleric back in 3.5 that I could never make work in 5e, and the Horizon Walker is what will let me bring him back into the game.
