D&D 5E (2014) Need suggestions for epic tasks worthy of a demigod

The tasks don't have to be TOO epic. Remember, one of the "epic" Labors of Hercules was, quite literally, to clean up some poop. Heck, one of the tasks could be to collect all of the pine cones in the Vindemere Forest of Arborea; an utterly mundane task that requires an epic approach to get it...

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

Yeah, you're right; I wouldn't lose sleep if these cantrips couldn't be counterspelled, but it would be pretty weird if these attacks operated in anti-magic fields and such. I assume you'd just alter the Antimagic Sphere spell to say "Within the sphere, spells [and cantrips] can’t be cast...

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

This thread is nasty and horrible for reasons that go far beyond thread derailment.

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

Alas, that's not how it works in practice. Consider yourself lucky you learned this lesson only 41 posts in.

D&D 5E (2014) RAW: Spell attack rolls modifiers stack?

The RAW answer here is actually pretty muddy as the effects in question, the bonuses to spell attack rolls, do not have proper names. The items themselves have proper names, but the items and their sundry effects are not one in the same. Just make a ruling.

D&D 5E (2014) How would you handle a healing economy?

The rules in the Players' Handbook are a conceit designed to allow the players to interact with the game world. They are not designed to model a socioeconomic system. In short: the rules are for building stories, not for building worlds.

    D&D 5E (2014) Flying Races: Limiting Flight

Replace flight with the ability to slow a fall as a reaction, like a non-magical, at-will Feather Fall.

    D&D 5E (2014) Help with a padlock build?

I'd suggest that you take your first 20 levels in Warlock then consider dipping into Paladin after that.

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question re: monsters as PCs

I really wouldn't say that "CRs are always significantly lower than the appropriate PC level" is misleading.

D&D 5E (2014) quick question on giant octopus

And just imagine if that octopus was wearing barding!

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

I really think you're missing the tenor of the conversation here. This isn't homebrew or a proposal for how people should run their own games. It is just musing on the notion "what if cantrips were modeled more similarly to weapon attacks as opposed to being modeled as spells?" I'm interested in...

D&D 5E (2014) Quick question re: monsters as PCs

Take a look at the PC like humanoid monsters at the back of Volo's Guide. The Conjurer and Enchanter are roughly modeled after 9th level PCs of those same schools, but are CR 6 and 5 respectively. Similarly, the Diviner is modeled as a 15th level wizard, but is listed as CR 9. The Champion...

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

That's probably because you're on a forum, and human beings always seem just a bit meaner and nastier than compared to in a face-to-face exchange. It is kinda easy to default into assuming someone's just being a jerk. Not just the Warlock, literally anyone with one or two levels of Warlock...

D&D 5E (2014) At my table: Hexblade removed, Pact of the Blade enhanced

I believe Mearls stated that the design of the Hexblade put it at a power level where warlocks should be, not necessarily in line with the power level of warlocks as they are. Maybe the better approach is to boost up the other patrons instead.

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

No one says that about weapon attacks, of which the fighter class alone gives multiple ways to enhance or upgrade them. Fighters get riders to their weapon attacks that add bonuses to hit or damage with specific types of weapons, rerolls to damage dice, expanded crit ranges, special maneuvers...

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

Most of those issues are addressed in implementation. Remember, this is just a random idea, not a fully-implemented ruleset. Interesting riders would come on a class-by-class basis. Some magical classes might be able to fire more blasts, others might be able to knock their foes over with their...

D&D 5E (2014) Would you like to have feats which build on specific class abilities?

I much prefer the "feats as mini-dips into another class" model than the model that makes a PC even better at something its class already does. It is one of the main reasons I dislike the various weapon style mastery feats as they make it feel like martial PCs need those feats to get the most...

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

This is something I've thought of before, and I do like the idea (maybe not the integrated normalization of the burst cantrips, though). It wouldn't be for free. Your remaining cantrips would be reduced by one.

D&D 5E (2014) What if Combat Cantrips looked like this instead...

Presumably, you'd enhance the power of magical attacks in all the myraid ways that weapon attacks are enhanced. I could see perhaps a wizard getting four magical attacks in total, like a fighter, but I could easily envision other spellcasting classes getting other bonuses instead. Some might...
