you have 60 seconds to grab whatever you can around you before you are instantly teleported back in time 1,000 years, what would you grab?

A supply of good 4-, 5- or 6-ply toilet paper could sell for enough money that you could live like a king. That, and haemorhoid cream.

You think you're screwed? Where I am was the North Sea a thousand years ago.* *Not all the time, but if I recall correctly a lot of reclaimed land reflooded around the millennium. Even now, the natural state of the grasslands a stone's throw from my house is essentially sea marsh.

    Movie Sequels

When I first heard Jason Momoa had been cast as Conan, after his stint on Game of Thrones, I thought he'd be perfect. In the end the kid that played Young Conan in the opening scene was a better Conan.

    Andor

Off the top of my head, I count at least three Andors in speculative fiction/geekdome. Andor the Star Wars television show, and the titular character Cassian Andor. Andor the country in The Wheel of Time. Andor the country in the boardgame Legends of Andor. And according to Wikipedia, the Star...

Here's a thought: Campaign for North Africa. I reckon a thousand years would be just about enough time to teach a group of players the rules and then play the game from start to finish.

    What is A Mountain?

Can we move on to defining "sea" now? "Big blue wobbly thing that mermaids live in."

Northwest Europe around the turn of the first millennium? Probably something to confound 21st century archaeologists. At least I'd be able to derive some pleasure from that while I'm being slaughtered. Actually, a face mask might be useful. I'd hate to carry my post-Covid germs back to an...

    What is A Mountain?

Once I was hiking along the Portuguese coast, right up to the mouth of the river Minho, which forms the border with Spain. For about a day and a half there's conical peak rising up ahead, like the picture of the Lonely Mountain on the maps of Middle Earth. I think it's about 600 metres high, but...

    What is A Mountain?

In the Netherlands, I think the official definition is "anything over 350 metres". Of course, the highest point in the country is less than 325 metres, so take from that what you will.

I still have nightmares from the first series. "Upstairs and downstairs, upstairs and downstairs..." With ranger magic the way it was intended!

    Cocktails

I've seen it used as a replacement for Amaretto. Like a Licor 43 sour, for instance. Or else to add a bit of booziness to things like sangria, tinto de verano and mulled wine. I'm sure there are other uses, though.

    Cocktails

Just came back from dinner with the wife. We had a cocktail the restaurant called "Spanish Winter": Liquor 43, ginger ale, cinnamon and star anise. A perfect drink for a miserable autumn evening.
