What's your favorite Urban Fantasy series?

For YA, you could do worse than Skulduggery Pleasant.

What's your favorite Urban Fantasy series?

It seems the pickings are slim in the urban fantasy genre. I'll toss in one that hasn't been mentioned yet, with the caveat that I've only read the first two books: Magic Ex Libris, by Jim C. Hines. Jim C. Hines is perhaps best known for Jig the Goblin. I think all D&D players should those books.

What's your favorite Urban Fantasy series?

It doesn't pull punches either. The first book, with Mr Punch? Ooph! No-one is safe.

D&D General Dave Arneson: Is He Underrated, or Overrated?

If you're going to make that argument, you need to understand that Westerns are essentially the same stories as medieval chivalric romances and other genres (including detectives, picaresque novels and at least some sci-fi and fantasy, up to and including Star Wars). (The most visible...

What's your favorite Urban Fantasy series?

The Rivers of London, by Ben Aaronovich. A grim and gritty police procedural with wizards, river goddesses and a ghost-hunting dog.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Perhaps they've misunderstood the meaning of "least said, soonest mended".

    Dragon Reflections #70

Really, it should be called "landing damage".

    Cocktails

I'm on workation in Spain. Loads of cocktails, mostly very cheap. My favourite one so far has been a souped-up sangria (I think it had amaretto and triple-sec added in).

I'm ready for a new Star Wars RPG

You can get a long way with d20 Modern/Future. You might need to reskin some of the skills and FX, but otherwise it's not a bad match. Of course it depends what flavour of SW you want. Andor, the Mandalorian, Obi Wan or The Phantom Menace?

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

I'm still unclear what makes these dice "TSR" dice, besides the name on the packet. Do they give, instead of numbers, overly long textual descriptions of the result? Do they sue you if you ever use other, non-TSR dice? Do they only work with official TSR games and settings? Do they provide...

The Pumpkin Pie Spice RPG Contest Discussion Thread

My wife saw the year's first Christmas stuff for sale about three weeks ago. Although back in 2020, I heard a commercial for a big Christmas party on German radio (they have the best 80s channels) in JANUARY! I remember thinking that seemed a bit presumptuous, as if anyone would know in January...

    Comedy and comedians…

The wife just bought us tickets to see Kevin Bridges in Amsterdam. He's hilarious. I won't post a link because of religious content, but I recommend looking up his bit about Joseph being Jesus's stepdad.

    Your dream TTRPG series

I don't know about the first three, but my answer to number 4 is: "MERP critical hit/miss tables."

What's the best adaptation of Beowulf?

Me too. At the time I was studying Beowulf in the original Old English at uni, so that made it extra cool.

What's the best adaptation of Beowulf?

My two favourite versions are the Klaeber and Benjamin Bagby. Or at least when I want to be a snob about it. Otherwise I enjoyed The 13th Warrior and the version with Angelina Jolie and Gerard Butler. Can we all agree, though, that the Christopher Lambert version is the worst?

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

So D&D didn't become demonic until WotC bought it? Also, I'm a bit rusty on my literature, but those works and writers seem to be very poor examples of Good v. Evil in literature. Arthurian romances tend to focus on human v. nature, for example, or human v. an antagonistic but not manifestly...

    Foundation Season 02 (Apple TV+) - SPOILERS

I've been meaning to get round to it. Like you said, s1 was enjoyable mostly for Empire, but the whole thing was visually amazing, and very well acted.

Wheel of Time - No Spoilers

I read that the other day. And just now when I'm abroad for a month and can't get to my Amazon Prime account!
