What is the single best thread of all time?

There was a vast "creepiest gamer" thread on RPGnet (I think) that was both horrifying and impossible to stop reading.

What is the single best epic poem of all time?

I translated the Iliad from the Greek at school, and the original has a wonderful sound, it's definitely meant for oral recital. But I'll stick with my choice on the other thread: Beowulf. Alliterative poetry showcases the English language at its best, and the story itself is such a romp that...

What is the single best fantasy novel of all time?

Epic? Beowulf for me. The best way is to hear it recited by a skilled medieval musician.

D&D General why are dwarves harder to think of varients for?

How about dwarves that take on properties of metals and minerals? Not element-based, perhaps, just assuming or aspiring to the defining qualities. Gold dwarves, iron dwarves, sapphire dwarves, heliodor dwarves, alexandrite dwarves.

What is the single best science fiction novel of all time?

You've got to love Slippery Jim diGriz. I think it's in The Stainless Steel Rat's Revenge where he has to get through a series of locked fences. "The lock was so simple I could have picked it with my eyes closed, standing on one leg and with one hand behind my back. In fact, just to prove a...

    Best LP/8-Track/Cassette/CD/ Digital/Opening Song

"Thunder Road", from Bruce Springsteen's Born To Run, has to be up there. More recently, "Tranquilize" (w/Lou Reed) from The Killers' Sawdust album.

D&D General Luke Gygax Brings Back Gary Gygax's Castle Zagyg

I enjoyed Gord the Rogue back in the day. I reread a few of them a few months ago, and while they hadn't held up from a literary perspective, they were still good gaming reading.

What is the single best science fiction novel of all time?

I've decided to change my vote to "Hiero's Journey" by Sterling E. Lanier. Psychic priests, telepathic bears and evil cultists. The sequel has catpeople and a giant slug that just wants a friend.

What is the single best science fiction or fantasy franchise?

Potter over anything is a huge question mark. From Earthsea to Free Lance to Rivers of London to Artemis Fowl, pretty much everything is better than Potter.

What is the single best science fiction novel of all time?

Has anyone ever read Tad Williams's "Otherland" series? I started on it, and never got further than about 100 pages. Everyone who's finished it raves about it, though.

Seems like we posted the same thread at the same time!

What is the single best science fiction novel of all time?

This one should make people think a bit more than "fantasy novels" or "sci-fi movies". I used to read a lot of sci-fi back in the 1980s, but I can't seem to remember many that aren't series or novelisations of movies. I enjoyed Jack Vance's "Planet of Adventure" and "Demon Princes", and still...

I posit that it would be apposite to distinguish between apostates and apostles.

EN World What you thought a thread title said.

You know, I never once misread the title until now. And now I keep misreading it. Thanks for that.

What is the single best fantasy novel of all time?

I really enjoyed it. Michael Page seems to really relish enunciating the dialogue.

    Cocktails

I settled for a glass of wine. Also not on the menu, although it included about 20 different beers. "We only have red, white and rosé. There's not much demand for it, so if someone orders wine we have to open a bottle specifically for them." Not the best service I've ever had.
