    Simple games for commercial breaks

My wife and I usually play the game of "what demographic is watching this programme, at this time of day, according to the commercials?"

    General star wars talk/discussion/complaining

I think the entire Empire in Andor was scary because they were all just people doing their jobs, following procedure, defending their little bit of turf in their office politics. But all those little bits add up to a colossal galactic tyranny.

D&D 5E (2014) We should domesticate Rust Monsters

Rust monsters are presumably why the Industrial Revolution never happens in D&D worlds. With so much iron around, they'd just increase in numbers. Or else disgruntled artisanal workers would release a few near the railways or factories. You really don't want to be on a train and discover that a...

D&D General What does Arcadia look like?

I picture rows of machines for playing Pacman, Donkey Kong, Galagga, Dig Dug, Frogger and so on.

TSR The Full & Glorious History of NuTSR

Arbitration that isn't moderated by an impartial party isn't moderation. That's a review. Not a lawyer, but I've translated dozens of arbitration cases. Impartiality is a huge deal, even up to and including where the arbitration panel is seated.

    How Do You Learn Boardgames?

My usual process is to unpack the game and admire all the cool pieces. Then I'll look at the rulebook, heave a sigh and lob it into the box. I'll check out the basics on SUSD (usually), then maybe a few how-to-play videos on YouTube. When the time comes to play, it's generally a combination of...

    AD&D 2E Jakandor

I owned a copy. Bought it, like so many other products, to mine for useful material for my own campaign. I don't think I opened it more than twice before I sold it a few years ago.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

I'm not sure this has been discussed yet, but what about the kids' names? I don't think they were chosen by accident. "Wim" is impulsive. "Neel" tends to indulge others and follow their lead. I can't think of any associations with "Fern" but... "KB", in a universe where so far only droids have...

I'd forgotten all about The Acolyte. It was only as I was reading this thread that I realised I never finished watching it.

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

Star Wars is always full of violent death. Skeleton Crew has had several already - didn't the kids blast some pirate fighters already? But this was cold-blooded and deliberate. It wouldn't have been out of place in Andor, for instance, but from a SW character who's not an outright villain it...

Apropos of not much concrete, does anyone else get the impression that Jude Law had the time of his life in this role?

Spoilers SW: Skeleton crew discussion thread

These security droids were better shots than Stormtroopers. Better shots than most Rebels too. I'll admit I was a bit shocked by Jod's ruthlessness with Brutus. Not for the character, but for what so far has largely been a kid's show.
