D&D General Dragons of Chaos and Law in Mythology?

There is Huanglong, the Yellow Dragon, that is the cosmic representation of the Yellow Emperor (Huangdi). He is credited with the creation of writting, the laws and the foundation of China, as well as maintaining the balance of the cosmos. He is also the ruler of the Four Symbols, the holy...

D&D General Religion in D&D: Your Take

Conan: What gods do you pray to? Subotai: I pray to the Four Winds. And you? Conan: To Crom... but I seldom pray to him, he doesn't listen. Subotai: What good is he then? Ah, it's just as I've always said. Conan: He is strong! If I die, I have to go before him and he will ask me, "What is the...

D&D General Religion in D&D: Your Take

My mom adds a third: Sports. Anyways, my take in religion is a mix of Greek mythology (or how I interpret it), the Dawn War take on religions, Eberron's take on religions, and the Athar's philosophy. In my campaigns, the gods are very real beings (because I like gods as fantasy characters and...

How you didn't know about Kingu? He has one of the most epic songs!

So what can 4e learn from 5e?

Isn't that what fantastic terrain and environmental hazards are for?

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

4e Dark Sun is an interesting case, because while it is true that they rebooted the setting to its starting point, ignoring the metaplot of late 2e, they didn't ignored all of it. They included stuff like Dregoth and the dray (that were adapted to be dragonborn), and stuff like that. And I...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

Sure. When discussing about a published setting, it's better to stick to the canonical info for many reasons - including the fact the canon serves as a guideline for knowing what to talk about in the conversation. It would be weird to be talking about something, and someone begins to mention...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

And what is more important for your campaign: the canon info or your "headcanon"? Sure, canon is important when referencing info from a sourcebook. And that's where its importance ends.

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

As for the canon topic, I've always wondered, when talking about canon in the context of D&D (or any fictional franchise), and people mentions "this is/is not canon": is "canon for what?". Because canon is only useful when you trying to "study" something ("I'm reading this series of novels; is...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

Perhaps, but people has been playing BG3 ever since, so these head types have become a reference for those who main dragonborn. And given that they took the time to change the head types of true dragons... Well. Instead, they chose the unspired path... But perhaps it's just me, as I find 5e24...

    D&D 5E (2024) 2024 Player's Handbook Reveal: Feats/Backgrounds/Species

Am I the only one who is bummed that they used the standard dragon heads for the dragonborn, when they had those unique and cool head designs from Baldur's Gate 3?

D&D General What is your favorite "campaign paradigm"

My favorite method is a sandbox but starting small and growing the stakes with the "closed-open-closed" method mentioned earlier in the topic: the starting adventure is an event that forces the characters to join forces and save the day, then they have the chance to explore the land at their...

D&D General Forgotten Realms, Greyhawk, and Canon: Stare Decisis in D&D

Take it as if the articles on the wiki are written by an NPC historian talking about events that happened on his past (from the perspective of this NPC).

D&D 4e Narrative books on Nentir Vale?

Yeah, the quality of this novels left much to be desired. However, it has a particularity that (for me, at least) makes it a must read: the material that was done for the cancelled "Nentir Vale Gazetteer" was used as a basis for this novel. So, lots of stuff to be salvaged, lol

D&D 5E (2014) 5th Edition and Cormyr: Flexing My Idea Muscle and Thinking Out Loud

Do you mind if I take your ideas and twist them a bit for my campaign? (not Cormyr-related). Lately, I been unable to come with good campaign ideas,

D&D 4e Narrative books on Nentir Vale?

Wow, I missed this topic. The others have already recommended you the Abyssal Plague trilogy, but that trilogy has a prequel, The Mark of Nerath, that serves as a introduction to the characters and the Nentir Vale as well. There are also other two novels, set in other regions of the world of...

    Spoilers X-Men '97 spoilers

I'm going to repeat what some of you have already said, but this was an incredible season finale. I had to watch the episode twice to be able to process everything that happened (and get all the references). All in all, this was a great series, and it shows that the problem wasn't never...

D&D General Which Gods/Pantheons do you use in your D&D setting?

I do the same. Which kind of gods do you add to your Dawn War pantheon? I usually use some minor gods from other 4e products, such as adding Waukeen (from the FR guide) as a goddess of commerce and wealth, as a servant of Erathis. Among others.
