They have put soft bans on species before in Ravnica, Theros and Dragonlance, they can do so here. I don't think they will ban classes though: even adding the psion to the mix, there is only 15 classes in the official game and I don't think they want to constrain that. No setting has yet removed...

While I agree they chickened out during 2024, I would still prefer 6e to be "let's redesign the fighter class from the ground up to improve combat" rather than "hey, we should make all classes play like PF2e" levels of changes.

In a broad sense, yes. Truth be told, I'm tired of new editions vaguely resembling the one before. 2e to 3e was a necessary break, but 3 to 4 to 5 has felt like whiplash. I want 6e to be a much more edited version of 5e which isn't afraid to make the major changes 2024 hinted at before...

Part of Dark Sun's allure is that it gives the middle finger to D&D and it's assumptions. Getting Dark Sun to remember it's a part of D&D and not a special sandflake was always going to be the biggest challenge.n

I've heard that the designers wanted to use the 1e assassin class (redone for 2e) and it was denied, so they redesigned the bard to be an assassin as a way to get around TSRs mandate. But that's apocryphal.

Much of these "next edition" threads end up thinly disguised sales pitches for the posters preferred fantasy heartbreaker. I find it highly amusing that they supposedly have what they want in said 3pp, yet long for D&D to become more like it.
