D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

That is absolutely my belief too. And I think while the line between subclass and class is rather subjective, D&D has done a decent job of trying to split the difference. I'm not sure assassin or illusionist could have been a full class with multiple subclasses of their own, but barbarian or...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

So the sorcerer bloodlines (mind you, they stopped using this term because many of them aren't inherited) have one real crossover (Great Old One and Aberrant) and one squint and you can see it (fathomless and storm are vaguely water and lightning related). You can really stretch and say Divine...

D&D General Todd Kenreck Let Go from WotC

I understand that there is a general fear of AI (and with good reason) but I don't think that it's good enough yet to make a Forgotten Realms module, yet alone a campaign supplement. The idea they are firing people now for tech that's still five years from being viable is comical. Then again...

Mastermaker. It's an update of a 3e prestige class Renegade Mastermaker. https://dnd.arkalseif.info/classes/renegade-mastermaker/index.html Still works better than GSA.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

That's what I think as well. I don't know if they moved because they wanted to move on to new things or if Darrington offered them a better gig (more money, easier workload) but I don't see it as a headhunting or resign in disgust type of situation.

D&D General Chris Perkins and Jeremy Crawford Join Darrington Press

I'm sure someone will spin this as "Chris and Jeremy abandoning WotC sinking ship over Controversies." This just tells me that this isn't a bridge burning between the two.

Hey, can Jeremy and Chris give a good look over to the Exandria books and tweak those subclasses and feats to make them work better?

Beyond being warm in this tells me there isn't a lot of bad blood here. We'll find out the full story eventually.

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

I think we both agree on the cause, but not the cure. Wizard and Fighter are designed to be a catch all because when they conceived of as fighting-man and magic-user, they were supposed to fill all those different archetypes equally. The fighting man was a bandit, knight, ranger, barbarian...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

Whereas I think the wizard is basically SPELLBOOK: THE CLASS. If anything, the wizard should be a subclass of sorcerer who gets a spellbook that they can use to swap out their spells known from. But inertia will keep Spellbook as a base class (it's one of the Core Four). So thus I will keep...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

The issue (like with so many D&D classes) is that the sorcerer is three archetypes in a trench coat fighting to see which one is going to be the top. You have the Innate Caster, the wizard-without-a-spellbook character. You have the Spell Shaper, the character whose brimming with power and can...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

That's an interesting take. I think it would work best as either a martial or a half-caster gish (like a paladin) who picks up monster abilities. Subclasses for different types of monster could influence the amount you lean into each part (draconic for magical, giantish for tanky, celestial for...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

Absolutely agree. But Im not sold it would be as good a class as it looks on paper. There are three primary modes of class design: martial, caster, and gish. In general terms, most classes pick one mode and that is their loop. A caster or martial can become a gish (valor bard, ek) and a gish...

D&D 5E (2024) Could the DnDNext Sorcerer be revived as its own class?

When that sorcerer came out, I was not a big fan of it's design AS THE SORCERER. I felt it was too narrow. You have to start out a caster and become a melee monster as you expend resources. That means every sorcerer starts a mage and ends a fighter. If you wanted to turn into a dragon* earlier...

D&D 5E (2024) Gunslinger Class (from Valda's Spire of Secrets) on DnD Beyond!

It absolutely is. The three core books are the biggest books the make and they are still $50.00. All the supplement books from last year (Phandelver, Vecna, etc) were 60 for less pages. Forge of the Artificer is $30 ($20 digital) and only 192 pages. They intentionally underpriced the holy...

D&D 5E (2024) Gunslinger Class (from Valda's Spire of Secrets) on DnD Beyond!

The difference is that $30 is going straight to WotC's pocket. (It's also a leader loss). That $15 is being split with MHP. They are getting $10 (the same as selling the PDF) and WotC is only getting $5. If they sold it any cheaper, WotC would get nothing OR Mage Hand would be selling at a loss.

    D&D 5E (2024) Lamordia Book Speculation

Lamordia, Mordent, Kartakass and Har'Akir would be perfect deep dive material. Classic monster settings (Frankenstein, ghosts, werewolves, mummy). Darkon could get a whole book to itself it's so big!
