Are you buying a DDI subscription?

I have a regular face to face group so no real need or interest in the online tools. I will subscribe to Dragon/Dungeon. While Dungeon isnt that much use to me so far I have been impressed with the material in Dragon.

D&D 4E Running player commentary on PCat's 4E Campaign - Heroic tier (finished)

Thats an intriguing setting you have there PCat. Is there any chance of a Story Hour?

    Rule "Yes"

Sorry, I thought you were looking for generic advice on these sorts of issues in other games. Rereading your post I suspect you are looking to see if it is addressed in previous editions. My suggestion however still stands. A lot of this stuff is all about playstyle and approach and has...

So What is a Roleplaying Game? Forked Thread: Clark Peterson on 4E

Because Diaglo presents his criticisms with some style and panache rather than as rather blatant "your doing it wrong" crap.

    Clark Peterson on 4E

Edit: Just read his statement, must learn to do my own research rather than relying on other peoples posts. Yes, I agree, pretty much an overreaction.

So What is a Roleplaying Game? Forked Thread: Clark Peterson on 4E

I had no idea that OD&D and BECMI (missing 4), Spirit of the Century (missing 2),1e/2e D&D (missing 4) and a great many indie games (missing 3) are not rpg's. I am sure their authors would be thrilled to know you judged them all as failures. Your comment about mechanical differentiation is...

    Clark Peterson on 4E

If he does want to publish and presumably sell his product then it might help if he didnt litter his post with a bunch of loaded terms apparently designed to inflame.

So What is a Roleplaying Game? Forked Thread: Clark Peterson on 4E

Oh look, a day with a Y in it and someone is saying that D&D isn't a roleplaying game. This has been the same argument since the early 80's. Sometimes I wish people would just get over themselves and play the games they enjoy and leave other people to play the games they enjoy.

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

Orcs of Thar for BECMI had rules for starting off as an ogre or a troll. The creature collections included rules for all sorts of weirdness from Tritons to Pixies. The Complete Book of Humanoids included rules for starting off as all sorts of creatures in 2e. Savage Species for 3.x anyone...

Name one thing you love and one thing you hate about 4e D&D

This would be on the release day for 3.0 and the move to "dungeonpunk" art surely?

Were the Player's Handbook Power Cards cancelled?

They certainly speed up play a lot. I got mine produced on decent card stock at a local printers. It cost £10 for a complete set for every class. Colour copies would have run to £50 but a bit of time with some coloured markers sorted that out.

    Rule "Yes"

I think perhaps you are reading too much into the description. If it were me running the scene the player would receive the mechanical benefits of the successful effect. How he narrates it is up to him and if he wants to make himself look cool doing so I have no real problem with that. The...

    Rule "Yes"

I did not post the description. One of the benefits of the various forced movement powers is to shove people into different dangerous terrains, like your Wizards wall of fire or over a cliff or out of a tree.

    Rule "Yes"

Nothing about what has been suggested has indicated that players control the consequences of their actions. Some indie games do this, some go much further into GM'less play and much stronger levels of player narrative control. Thats not what I have been talking about. The Come and Get It...

    Rule "Yes"

4e PHB, pg 80. Targets creatures up to 3 squares away from you, pulls them 2 and lets you attack them if they end up adjacent to you. The only bit I mgiht quibble about with the descriptions given is the second one seems to leave the enemy prone. The enemies in the first example would fall...

    Rule "Yes"

The power being discussed, Come and Get It, allows you to pull the targets closer to you. Assuming it succeeds how is having the player narrate the imagery of the effect "railroading their own story".

    Ampersand: Graz'zt from MoP

Not especially. Looking back to 1e there was nothing especially subtle or cunning about most Demon Lords. Jubilex, Orcus, Demogorgon. They fought amongst each other but it certainly didnt seem to involve the level of machination and politicking which the Arch devils seemed to possess. If...

D&D 4E Is 4E doing it for you?

This does not match my experience at all. My players are, frankly, D&D novices. Most played a little 1e/2e and we ran a 3.0 game for about 18 months on release but since then it has been mostly Pendragon, Buffy and various Indie Games. They picked up character creation and game play in less...
