How do you Build your Character?

I couldn't tell you about AM but SotC doesn't have a life path system as far as I recall. It does have a very interesting system for creating a group of characters with established connections with each other. SotC characters start out at being highly experienced in their own field and fairly...

Is there a Relationship between Game Lethality and Role Play?

This is, in my experience, completely inaccurate. There are all sorts of parts of the game which dont involve combat or a skill challenge. Skill Challenges exist to provide a fairly loose framework for resolving significant non combat events, they are not the default structure for everything...

    Academic Studies Recent Edition Wars

For an allegedly academic article it is lacking any form of referencing. It also makes a number of dubious assertions which are poorly supported.

How do you Control/Set the Pace of a Game?

If your players are engaged and interested and the game isn't flagging then I probably would just leave it to run its course. If you as GM find what is going on dull and tedious then I may be tempted to chivvy them along a bit. I personally have no real interest in playing out my players...

Is there a Relationship between Game Lethality and Role Play?

It is also pretty explicit that you should be giving out xp for completing quests. It wouldn't be too difficult to expand that to make all xp awards quest based which leaves the method of both completion and advancement entirely in the hands of the PC's.

How do you Control/Set the Pace of a Game?

I dont have my books handy but IIRC 4e does not have limited ranged teleportation, it has fixed destination teleportation.

Is there a Relationship between Game Lethality and Role Play?

While this is true thats because domain management was a significant part of the game, the Companion boxed set provided extensive mechanical support for it. It is however telling that such rules were virtually absent from 1e. There is a nod to it in the PHB with the name level followers if...

How do you Build your Character?

Burning Wheel does exactly this just without the levels. Your final age and paths chosen determine various things such as total number of stat points available, skills and traits you can purchase, number of points to buy those skills and resources, influence etc.

How do you Build your Character?

If you like lifepath systems then take a look at Burning Wheel, its character creation system is an entire game in itself.

How do you Build your Character?

We do this for every game and not just character creation but world and setting details as well. The initial material for our current game was 80% generated by the players (and one gamer friend).

Forked thread: Meta portion of the "Class Acts" bard thread

It's a handful of posts amongst hundreds, none of which you have to click on. How can that possibly be "obnoxious"?

How do you Build your Character?

We start with a round table discussion on what the game will be about, the main themes, ideas, mood etc. I then decide on a concept, a bit of background and personality and only then do I start to look for mechanics to suit what I have in mind. We also tend to do character creation as a group...

Would you have been upset if Gold Dragons WERE LG?

I give my allies and antagonists personalities rather than alignments so it makes no difference to me. Also, I support pudding as a new official alignment for all monsters.

Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

Coming from you this is pure comic irony.

Edition War Across the Net or Where Have You Been?

Your attempt to paint such events as terribly one sided is both obvious and dishonest.

    Aeon (updated 10/9/14)

This is a great update, many thanks. I cant help but draw a parallel to the Afquitan session we never saw really desribed. Is there any chance you might go back to it now you seem to be well in the writing groove?

How Important is Magic to Dungeons and Dragons? - Third Edition vs Fourth Edition

The 70/80's UK TV version gave him a Son of Hern the Huntsman vibe. Not necessarily "using magic" as such but with definate connections to a whole load of Cletic Mythology, much of which was entirely inappropriate but still made for good television. Or so the teenage version of me thought.

    GTS 2009 D&D Seminar - the Rouse discusses D&D

Post removed by Admin. You know, there are lots of people I don't agree with, too, but that doesn't give me free rein to give an inflammatory, insulting answer. There are lots of ways to differ without insulting someone and trying to start a fight. If you have any questions at all as to why...

Do you build NPCs to live or to die?

Only if you assume that most NPC's are for fighting. That is very far from the assumption in my games. Of course thats no excuse for self absorbed world building waffle which will never actually see any use in game. I do however like to spend as much time on my NPC's motivations and desires...
