Irreconcilable differences(Forked Thread: When did I stop being WotC's...)

Probably given that the 4e core books sold more copies than the initial runs for both 3e and 3.5 (which was greater than 3e). While not determinative its a good indicator that a lot of people bought the books. Whether people are still playing only time will tell but I am willing to bet they are.

    Stupidity or Genius?

I would go for stupidity. It was clearly very metagamey and while I dont necessarily think all metagaming is evil it was also tactically stupid. You are trying to apply human reasoning and thought processes to a creature of terror, rage and destruction. A servant of pure malevolence and...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

Repeatedly saying something does not make it true. Personally I see more bile from a small number of people determined to hate 4e who crop up endlessly in threads about it to tell people how wrong they are to like the game.

Irreconcilable differences(Forked Thread: When did I stop being WotC's...)

Or you could simply be wrong. Personally I remember the changeover very well and it was as vitriolic and, in some cases, worse, as the current situation. Things settled down in time with those who stuck with AD&D eventually moving on. I have little doubt that the same will happen this time.

Was Reading My Mentzer Expert Rules and What did I see?

Nothing about that picture shouts "elf" to me at all. The horns look like they are attached to the head and the black marks on the face look more like tattoos than a helmet. If I was looking for an image of a tiefling it isnt that far off something I might use.

Was Reading My Mentzer Expert Rules and What did I see?

By the look of him a bad X-Men cartoon villain.

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

The change from 1e to 2e removed half orcs, Illusionists as a seperate class, Monks and Assassins amongst other things. Things change between editions, railing against it is really quite pointless.

Ratio of wizards in a population?

Personally I prefer my wizards to be reclusive and dangerous. They might occasionally take an apprentice (a PC) but generally they prefer spending their time creating new spells than working for temporal authorities or messing about in politics. Antagonists are the obvious exception. For a...

When did I stop being WotC's target audience?

That depends on whether you consider a small number of vociferous complainers on the internet data.

    sword and sorcery genre rpg

The Shadow of Yesterday has a very strong Sword and Sorcery vibe as well as being pretty rules light and decent for longer term play.

Curious about something: would you play in an AD&D campaign?

Not if you payed me. We played 1e to death as kids, I have no desire to ressurect its corpse. Now Basic, then you might have my interest.

Skill Chalanges are so not cool

You can set different DC's for different skills.

Do you know you're a bad GM?

The short answer would be "yes". The longer answer? I and my group are all 30 something professionals. A number of us have a vareity of qualifications in training and management. We talk about what we want to play beforehand. After each game we have a short feedback session. Three of my...

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

I am not a big fan of some of the art for them and I generally dislike the huge ungainly tail. I have adapted them in my game so that they can come with a variety of inhuman features.

Which 4e adventures have you played?

I voted H2 although it is not strictly accurate. The last two sessions involved the group being in an area pretty heavily based on H2 although heavily modified for our game. I pretty much just used the Hall and the Keep sections. I may use the well of demons for something else at some point...

    Your character died. Big deal.

Your use of excessive hyperbole isnt helping you to make your point.

    Your character died. Big deal.

Getting lost in the dungeon and having to survive on rats while avoiding being eaten by the minotaur clan hunting you until you reach the exit at the far end of the complex introduces new and interesting complications. Dying in random encounter number 4 when an orc shoots you through the eye...

    Profession/Crafting skills: Why?

You have never scaled the smooth marble walls of the Temple of Set to steal the Emerald Eye of the Serpent God? And here I thought the old school gaming method prmoted a sword and sorccery approach to conflict resolution.

Does anyone actually like Dragonborn and Tieflings?

Indeed. Although I feel compelled to point out that both races features very extensively in our game.
